LindaE User ID: 1415061 United States 08/11/2012 05:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Guess I must be getting stronger as I get older! The other week I carried $100 of groceries in only two large plastic shopping bags. Only got two pieces of meat (no eggs since we have chickens that free range on our property), a bottle of wine, one magazine (almost $5 for it!) and the rest veggies that we aren't growing yet, pasta, cheese, coffee. Got to keep growing those veggies in the greenhouse this winter, or we'll be making soup 3 nights a week out of necessity, not because it's one of our favorite winter foods. |

Nika User ID: 9710611 United States 08/11/2012 05:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I live on the West Coast and I have noticed a dramatic increase in the price of eggs, just in the past week. I was paying about $3.00 for two dozen regular white eggs and the price jumped to $5.00 per two dozen. At one of my favorite groceries they had a printout on the egg case that explained the increase, citing the drought and the rising cost of feed, as well as a large avian flu problem in western Mexico. I came home and tried to search the internet for more info, and couldn't find info on the current situation. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21267328 My question to you all, has anyone else noticed their food costs rising...?? YES! I live in Oregon and we've noticed it here too. :infnty: :ihavgsbmp: |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 21745630 Japan 08/11/2012 05:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Japan has been in recession for over 20 years now, which means most things cost less then they did 20 years ago. The kiosk I buy soft-drinks from every day has had the price of a lemon drink at 147 yen for about 20 years. I noticed last week it was 150 yen. Make of that what you will. |
jarrahtree User ID: 19062494 Australia 08/11/2012 06:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In Australia the cheap crap is getting cheaper and the quality keeps going down. Real food and good quality food is getting more expensive though. So the gap between rich and poor shall widen more and in other ways as health suffers (or benefits!) so much from diet. bvndy User ID: 20644442 United States 08/11/2012 06:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Get used to it. They staged a fake "drought" so that it would cover up the effect on food of printing tons of worthless money. GAS is also going sky high, only reason manufactured goods are keeping station is cheap crap from CHINA. But eventually the effects of inflation will be hard to hide(ten dollars for a loaf of bread) You can ignore the consequences of your actions, but you cannot ignore the RESULTS of the consequences of your actions Ayn Rand |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21267328 My question to you all, has anyone else noticed their food costs rising...?? Here are some grocery store prices: $12 - $15 for a t-bone steak ~10 oz $6 - $7 for 1 lb bacon $12 - large jar of peanut butter $57 - 12 pack of Coors Light, 12 pack of Bud and 4 Mike's Hard Lemonade (Bought that combo last weekend) $1.26 - $1.32 per litre for gasoline $4 - 1/2 pint blueberries $4 - for a loaf of bread $10 - $12 for a pack of smokes It goes on and on but you get the idea. We are coming into the season of plenty where fresh local produce starts to enter the market. We stock up and can our own goods this time of year because it saves a fortune. Also we buy direct from the farmer. Wonder how long before Agenda 21 catches up to us on that front? Here is a piss off for ya: My sister had the property tax on her house jacked by 187%. Why? Because she lives on a lake so the government, which is broke, decided that shore side properties needed to go way the fuck up. She complained and they told her that she should consider herself lucky because some of her neighbors had theirs jacked to 200-250% As governments become more and more strapped for cash they will look at all possible ways to milk the system. |

craftybiatchytwo User ID: 1429977 Canada 08/11/2012 06:08 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A box of Quaker Oatmeal with 8 packets of flavoured oats was almost $5. I don't buy that kind of shit because I know how to make my own from bulk oats & fruit I dry myself. A decent loaf of bread is $4. No increase in egg prices yet - which is odd. I get my eggs straight from a local farm. I buy my milk straight from the farm as well, $3/L. Blueberries were $ 9.99 / lb. And those were the shitty ones from across the border. I said fuck that, drove south of town and bought 2 lb of certified organic, straight from the farm, for $6. Last Edited by craftybiatchytwo on 08/11/2012 06:11 PM |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21267328 My question to you all, has anyone else noticed their food costs rising...?? I shop at a military commissary. Sometimes I will buy a large can of cashew nuts as a "fun" Christmas gift for a relative. In December, 2010, it was $8.00. Christmas of 2011, the same size can was $11.00. Two days ago I checked, and a can was $16.95. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 16542544 United States 08/11/2012 06:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's ridiculous... I spent $14 buying ingredients for a large salad the other week (baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, sliced chicken breast). The serving sizes of many items are decreasing also. Smaller portions, but same price as before. Even things like candy bars and soft drinks/beverages are flirting with the $2 mark.... All signs point to inevitable collapse.... |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21267328 My question to you all, has anyone else noticed their food costs rising...?? Food costs are going up and will continue to increase indefinitely. This is because the price of petroleum is going up - for both actual market reasons and completely artificial ones. Pretty much everything we eat is dependent on petroleum. The fertilizers used to grow the feed are based on petroleum. The vehicles used to transport the eggs use petroleum. Hell, even the hormones and antibiotics used on the chickens are synthesized from organic compounds extracted from petroleum. Etc. Until we convert to a viable alternative energy economy, this trend will continue. And we will continue to become poorer as we purchase fewer and fewer goods. |
