It hasn't done anything all week because it was performing various tests and going through various start-up procedures. It didn't have all its operating instructions because it is meant to run fairly low power, and can only handle so much information at one time.

Geez. They're taking out the software that controlled the entry, descent, and landing because - duh - they don't need it any more. They're putting in software to handle driving on the surface, operating the arm, running the science instruments, etc., because they didn't need that before but do need it now.

If you ignore for the moment that they're doing this to a computer that's tens of millions of miles away, this is about as big a deal as installing a new software package on your computer.

If there is any old equipment up there that's still operational, we intend to go try and boot it up. Need to be able to converse in their original operating language.

Frankly, the processors that were built years ago last longer than the ones they build today. Just look at Voyager. Also, we had a spare from a program that got defunded.

Bullshit. Thats a cover story for the real tests/scanning going on right now and a few days to create nice sanitized video and results. Ooops, and there goes that pesky obligatory tech glitch next week until we all collectively forget about it. Sleight of hand AND a red herring, my friends.
