That shit takes time. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21737975 Oh puLEEZE! 10 bucks an hour for someone with a degree? You're off your rocker. The FACT is that the U.S. -- and in fact the entire West, including the EU -- is being taken down as the East (Russia, China, India) is being built up. That should surprise nobody who has been paying attention. All this hoopla about "retraining for a new career" only quiets the slaves while the schools are cashing in. |

All of these people who run off to college to get degrees for this and for that are just adding up debt for no reason, there are very limited jobs in most fields today, and they dont pay that much more than someone who is a General Laboror. I work in a Stave Mill and I make more than you. 40 hours a week, 3 days a week off including Saturday and Sunday. Steady work. America is screwed. What are the facts? |

Want more go fucking get it, really is that simple. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19046559 Yes sir on the same boat here so many "college graduates" think that a degree makes your breaks you. Unless you are in the medical field or law a degree ain't shit in this economy. I don't make your kind of money but I can tell you I make more money and I'm harder working than most of my college graduate friends that lack experience and drive and think their piece of paper entitles them to everything. |

He started a new job 2 months ago that pays $12 bucks per hour BUT we have great health benefits. Be happy you have a job in this economy. BUT, I don't have a college degree & I'm earning $9.45/hr at one part time job & getting $10/hour at another part time job. Force em...for most of us the BEST we can do is take these jobs for pennies just so people won't call us lazy... I know I'm worth more and bring better to the table, but the jobs AREN'T THERE...6 years of looking has told me this... You are either gonna work for the gov't (military, overseas contractor, TSA or alphabet agency), in medical as a billing specialist or receptionist or in a nursing home, or doing grunt work like a garbage man, clothes sales associate or even a grocery store bagger. What's a 30+ year old with a full education pedigree look like doing this...? sometime we don't have a choice |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 8161940 Canada 08/11/2012 03:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ability, creativity, motivation and drive - are all crucial to financial success. A degree is just a piece of paper; it does not prove your ability to think for yourself, innovate, adapt, or survive in a very competitive world. Can't find a job worth more than $10/hour? Move to a place where you can - or start a business and make $100/hour. No matter how crap the economy is, people still need things - they still need home repairs, car repairs, food, clothing, entertainment, and everything else that makes us human. Identify a product or service that people will buy, learn to make it, and then sell it. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 21739448 United States 08/11/2012 03:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I got a 2 year degree and went to a 1 year technical school all for art/special effects/animation. I got myself deep in debt, never found a good job at it. Still paying $220/month 10 years later. Having lived and learned- most college is a waste of time and money, what you want is a short specific education in a valuable field. Learn to be a plumber, or get a certification to set up networks and repair computers, or take some minor medical training to be a low level nurse or ambulance driver. This wont cost a fraction of what a 4 year degree costs and you will definitely find work and make good money because these are high demand, always hiring jobs. What you want is a useful skill in as little time as possible for the least amount of investment, so that you can start building your personal wealth. As a teenager I couldn't grasp this concept, I expected once I had my degrees I would get out of college and instantly just fall into some big hollywood studio or be an advertising executive or something. The reality is, most of those fancy degrees will get you exactly nothing, they will get you a minimum wage dead end job and a ton of debt that you can never pay down. In the 1950's maybe a degree entitled you to sucess but these days its worthless. The economy is in ruins and jobs are not plentiful. Especially if your skillset is not something people NEED, luxury stuff suffers in a poor economy. People cant live without pooping so a plumber will always find work. People don't need art, so starving artists are common. Think about the failing school system, when budget cuts happen the first things to go are art, music, etc. That stuff is a great hobby but only a rare few can make a successful career of it. And only if they sell out to some illuminati record labell. |

Learn to be a good poo-stained plumber. Get a job as a low level technician. Most people are simple peasants, including perhaps yourself, so it might be bad for your stress levels if you harbor aspirations. Just reach into the drain and shove that tangle of hair and poo right through, is all you gotta do. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1526365 United States 08/11/2012 04:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Herding and brainwashing every high school kid to college is the largest scam this country has. I know so many people that based their entire worth on that paper and no real passion for what they were studying. It starts with teachers and educators who shove everyone in that direction to give themselves more affirmation for their own choices. Most kids in college are not equipped for their profession. My company doesn't even put much emphasis on it due to poorly trained college grads. It's easier for us to do the training on a person with a Associates or some experience than deal with someone who thinks they are trained. |

Those should be illegal. What's funny is I finally woke up and saw another year of debt and getting the paper is worthless. I'm not down on college. I'm down on college being the plan. College is a part of a plan but not a plan. All kids are lied to concerning this. If you want to be a doctor, engineer, lawyer, accountant, teacher, great. college is for you. a bachelors is a good step. If you want to be a business man, artist, filmmaker, actor, computer programmer, just go fucking do it. Your college teacher most like has nothing to offer you. Your degree will impress nobody. Your wasting someones money. |
