Re: getting paid $10 An hour after 4 years college degree
For the people with GED's that are now CEO's of companies and making $300K+ a year, that's fine and dandy, but why not offer some real insight into your late night infomercial stories unless you are just talking out of your ass?

But for the realistic people on here, having a college degree still means something. It's just not as valuable in the current economic climate we live in, at least in terms of guaranteeing a good salary, let alone employment.

In fact even just a basic 4 year business degree is more valuable than having nothing. I'm in my mid 30's and started out making crap wages out of college, but I've worked hard and paid my dues and now making a consistent annual income around $100K.

Long story short, for new college grads struggling to find jobs or making crap money, don't give up hope. Just take what you can get and prove your value to your employer. Either way the days of graduating college and getting offered $60K+ year for an 'entry level' job are gone and never coming back unless you are in a highly specialized field like engineering and live in an area that may command that.

First of all welcome to the new normal...

Second of all...what is you degree in?

Third of all...where did you finish in your class?

If it wasn't in the top 10%...you wasted your time and money...

Any other questions for someone with no college that retired at age 51?

Oh and keep voting for Democrats...your wage will go even lower...with more education..

College has been turned into a business and they need to make a profit...That doesn't mean they have to make you smart...

Damn!

Glad I skipped college. No doubt you have massive school bills on top of it.

When people stop going, it will get cheaper.

Trading your labor for a paycheck is always a losing proposition. Fortunately, there are far better ways to earn money.

When I looked into moving to another country, the only thing I found were lists of trades that are needed there and if you don't have the skills they need, you cannot come in.

How would one go about moving from the US to Canada?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16038983

I looked into it awhile back. You must have $10,000 in Canadian dollars in the bank. Application fee was $300-400, I think. Landing fee was something like $1,000. And they go by a point system and are looking for certain skills. I gave up on it.....

The real insight for people who make big bucks is that they found their talent and nurtured it. They had a drive as well. You also can't teach talent. You either have it or not. So find where your strength is and find a way to market it. And some people are sometimes just not going to be rich and famous no matter what they do. But they can make a living doing something they love. They just may be assistants to the bosses though. Some are leaders and some are followers. Don't fight what you are. Accept it and go with it.

Re: getting paid $10 An hour after 4 years college degree
I have a High School Diploma.

I am now a Chief Information Officer and have been for the Last 14 years. Before that I was a VP of IT for the previous 6 years.

I have hired and Fired Master Degrees in Technology and MBAs.

A Degree Doesn't mean squat to me. Many who think they have arrived after School haven't a clue of what it takes to make it.

I really question what is being taught in school. Some of the most ignorant people I have ever met have acquired a degree and that is a true mystery why any institution of higher learning would ever pass some of these students.

PAY YOUR DUES BEFORE YOU CRY!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1838356

Sadly, they will never understand this. Just look at how they completely ignore your reply because they know it's true. I run an engineering company and I have a hard time finding employees to do the job right in a timely fashion. I can't even find a secretary anymore, because they all just suck, none of them have any business sense. The lawyers and paralegals I hire are absolutely horrendous that I end up doing the work for them because they chase my clients away. They can't get a business deal going even if it was right there in their face in front of them. They have zero ability in negotiations.

I ended up recruiting dropouts because they are so easy to train and started replacing my engineers with them to do CAD work, anyone I find willing to learn I take them. I spent less time training these guys than I do hiring someone that's supposed to know these things and learn myself that they don't know shit.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 846701

Most people who go to school have no idea what they want to do. They have no idea who they are. These dropouts you find are able to find out who they are and what they are good at before diving into a university and spending big bucks only to come out with a sucky attitude and nothing else.

Find your talent first by working different jobs at minimum wage. Then go to school if you need more refinement when you are older. The only ones who should be going to university when young are those who knew their talent early on(most likely when they were just kids) and they just need the degree. But these people are rare.

Shit, I started my job at 9 bucks per hour. Now with a few yrs experience I'm at 10.50

2 month cna course. Med aide course was paid for by one place of employment.

I see some of you post that you have 10 or 20+ years experience in your department and you're only making $13. My fiance has roughly 4 years experience in his current position, he makes $15.45 plus overtime every week. (with the exception of a month and a half recently)

That's what I did 2.5 years ago. Got an associates in computer science (networking emphasise) for the past 4 months I've been making 23/hr sitting on my ass all day. Fuck 4 year degrees, they are a waste of time and money.

I've got six years in my profession and I make $22/hour.

Halfway into this deal I realized the error of my ways and would now rather live off the land away from any cities, though. I've changed my mind and do not wish to be a tool for human suffering any longer, but that's a story for another time.

One more thing-

If (mostly) everyone gets a degree to have an "advantage" doesn't it pretty much defeat the purpose?

Dumb asses...
