True! Wouldn't make sense for the warship to make the turn though? WTF happened there.
 Quoting: insertfunnyusername

:blumerl: I'm taking a guess here so don't anyone get mad at me if I'm wrong. The tankers Japanese, the Japanese have been how shall we say "a bit reluctant to go along with the US lead oil embargo."

I'd not be all that surprised if it was carrying Iranian crude and the USA was sending a message.

Also historically the Japanese owe the US a pay back for the oil, scrap iron and other embargo's that they placed on Japan prior to WWII.
 Quoting: Judethz

That might make more sense if the USS Porter was scheduled for upgrades in 2013. Sacrifice a boat that will be out of commission soon anyway and get better upgrades for it too. Dont know if it is scheduled, but it's worth looking into.
 Quoting: SE

No, these class of ships are modern and they do go thru regular upgrades throughout all the 70 of these ships. It's not a bid deal and we don't need to sacrifice a destroyer to get upgrades for it

Re: BREAKING: USS Porter collides with Japanese-owned tanker near Strait of Hormuz!
i guess the tanker did not see all the warnings and or hear the warning shots fired and hit the poor US ship....like we were told about the Indian fishing boat ...where the US killed and wounded unarmed fishermen from UAE and India...last i heard the UAE was investigating that event as a murder...then it fell into the media black hole....there was a possibility of international charges brought against the sailors involved.
 Quoting: psyoptics

You are looking at this with the wrong perspective The tanker has a set trajectory guided by GPS is always set the same way and is mandatory that they follow that trajectory thru the channel, the tanker did not need to do anything those things are slow and can hardly turn. It was the destroyer that needed to take evasive maneuvers, they drill for this all the time.

The supertanker, one of the biggest in the world, is only 333 metres long so it's quite understandable how they didn't spot it.

Now *that* is why I check in on GLP everyday.

THAT is funny.

And also pretty sad.

This shit also happens from time to time in Bosphorus strait (not lately thankfully) but Bosphorus is a few km wide (the widest point 3,6 km-the narrowest point 700 m) while Hormuz is 39 km wide.

Yep you beat me to it this happens all the time but mostly at dock when ships are being moved around not in a directional sea channel where ships move along like a car lane one way on the right and the opposite way on the left

You have no idea of the Shananigans that go on in a ship to keep sane. Sailors work really long hard hours. While on the way at sea they don't have any days off ATT ALL and work around 12 hours every day on their regular job or and additional hours that they have to put in for training, ship drills, exercise, and studying to pass certifications.

With all the advanced radar and sonar technologies, not to mention the proximity sensors...how in God's name does a destroyer collide with a tanker ?

This is the 21 century guys, there are a shitload of electronics and all sorts of measures to prevent this kind of thing from occurring...either the crew on the bridge was asleep or drunk or something is very fishy here !

Re: BREAKING: USS Porter collides with Japanese-owned tanker near Strait of Hormuz!
this from David Wilcock latest update-
"I found out that two more massive false-flag attempts have been thwarted by Divine Intervention -- at least so far. Either one of these would have been provocative enough to immediately start World War III.

At this time there is still an old, mothballed destroyer in the Persian Gulf that is wired up with charges set to go off -- and be blamed on Iran. However, the charges will not go off and the effort has been a failure.

There have been many frantic attempts to set up false-flag events like this, and none of them have been working -- since August of last year, if not earlier."

while its not a mothballed destroyer, it would fall under 'expendable' USS Cole 2.0. maybe someone threw a wrench in the plan.

The USS Porter is headed to Jebel Ali port in the UAE according to ABC, which is the biggest port of the region. Link has no new info besides that.

Let's just say I'm somewhat of a Navy expert and I know these Arleigh Burke-class destroyer well and I know about Navy procedures.

I'm dumbfounded by this incident (refuse to call it accident) this class of ships are very maneuverable and while going thru the straits due to how busy the channel is they would of had observers on deck.
 Quoting: Ready2bugout AKA R2B BOB

yes, which brings us to the point that it was not an accident.
Japanese tanker carrying Iranian oil? Not any more
And a large signal that another accident is on its way if they continue with oil shipment.

Isn't it ebaressing to know that Americans are not playing by the fair game rules?
After 35 years of sanctions on Iran and closing every single path for Iran, they are still losing and resorting to below the belt activities.
Somehow i feel that all this is going to backfire on USA with a very big fall for the big guy
