How does a warship collide with an oil tanker in this day and age? The same way a giant cruise ship can hit an island. All the navigational aids and devices in the world don't amount to shit if you're stupid. Or doing something other than what you're supposed to be doing.

Let me add to that these sailors work such long hours and are so sleep deprive sometimes that at 1 AM that could of being a factor.

I know. I was a Radioman on the USS Shenandoah AD44. I remember the captain of the USS Yellowstone AD41 turning his ship on such a sharp degree that crew members were injured and almost capsized. I know shit happens. But being in charge means just that. If you are tired, or are not up to the task at the moment, you pass the command along to another who is ready and alert. Just sayin.

Could the tanker have been running on gps autopilot and was hacked and directed to ram the navy ship? I can't wrap my head around this incident. Why didn't the navy ship avoid it? Was it stalled or not moving when it was hit and COULDN'T move out of the way?

I have the same issues understanding what could have happened there !

It absolutely doesn't matter what the tanker did, even if it tried to ram the US ship on purpose, the destroyer had the equipment and the capability (maneuverability) to detect a possible collision and take evasive action on time !

That tanker would have been spotted on the radar from miles away and if I'm not mistaken modern radar systems warn the crew of any possible collisions, just like the TCAS system in commercial jets !

The destroyer either had some technical problems which prevented it to move out of the way or someone on the bridge was sleeping on the job...OR there is more to this story than we have been told !

perhaps....with all of electronic controls systems...maybe they [iranians] were able to gain control of the ship control systems....

1.A destroyer is not a drone, designed to be remotely controlled thus I highly doubted that it can be hacked remotely...unless the hackers had someone on the inside, on the bridge, which again I highly doubt !

2.The Iranians didn't hack the Sentinel drone, I can bet anything it was the Chinese that did that !

Hmmmmmmmm, makes me think. The destroyer couldn't fire on or sink a jap or allied tanker running the embargo. It would have to block it physically to harass it. The destroyer crossed the T and stopped right in the tankers path. The tanker either couldn't stop fast enough due to weight and momentum, or crew wasn't aware and was on gps autopilot, or it was calling the bluff......either way the destroyer realized it wasn't going to stop in time and started to move out of the way but wasn't quite fast enough and got dinged. Kinda a weak theory but it's the only thing I can come up with to explain this. Or......could it have been doing some sort of ship to ship transfer and got to close and had a fender bender??

How people manage to collide two ships?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21787465

Pretty easily. When you have two heavy ships that require miles to stop and miles to turn, and not much room to maneuver, it's not that easy to avoid a collision when you're in that window.

Not easily, with the current nav technology. Human error, intentional, btw did you see the video of the 'hard to port' maneuver?

I like this one a lot except I don't think the autopilot is online based. Keep in mind that the way a GPS works is by receiving lat and long coordinates from the Satellite all the maps and programs are based within the computer

Crossing the T Lol see I like your theory too. The transfer no tankers would never and do not have the capability to do this. The jap ship was a crude carrier not an oiler

Your right about the tanker but not the destroyer. The destroyer can stop, turn and change course on a dime. Take a look at my other videos where it shows a hard turn.
This is a video where it shows a same class destroyer Arleigh Burke crash back to reverse.

Keep in mind that while on the channel both ships would have being going slow not at the speed of this video so changing course would have been even faster than this

Re: BREAKING: USS Porter collides with Japanese-owned tanker near Strait of Hormuz!
this from David Wilcock latest update-
"I found out that two more massive false-flag attempts have been thwarted by Divine Intervention -- at least so far. Either one of these would have been provocative enough to immediately start World War III.

At this time there is still an old, mothballed destroyer in the Persian Gulf that is wired up with charges set to go off -- and be blamed on Iran. However, the charges will not go off and the effort has been a failure.

There have been many frantic attempts to set up false-flag events like this, and none of them have been working -- since August of last year, if not earlier."

while its not a mothballed destroyer, it would fall under 'expendable' USS Cole 2.0. maybe someone threw a wrench in the plan.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20032393

putin

The Arleigh Burke class destroyers were commission on 1991 Prior to that we had Spruance class destroyers

Mothballing or parking a ship when is no longer needed is only done in California and Virginia. NOT in the middle east. Unlike the ships of WWII that were parked and left to rot all the Spruance destroyers are accounted for decommission and recycled. I looked at the pictures of the damage and that is a Current Modern Arleigh Burke destroyer that was damaged I call you and this Cocksucker nothing but a bullshit artist

didn't i SAY it wasn't mothballed? DW used that word, not me. what I said was EXPENDABLE. touchy touchy. strike a nerve squid? i'm just throwin it out there in discussion. calling me a bullshit artist? out of line.

You must be a brain damaged Jarhead or GED dropout Grunt.

An Army general, a Marine general and a Navy admiral are all sitting around discussing whose service is better and whose troops are the bravest.

The Army general (well into his second or third iced tea) announces to the group, "My soldiers are the BEST in the world and to prove it I'll have one do the impossible!" as he reaches for the phone. Well the other two commanders are in an uproar and each one promptly calls for his best soldier.

When all three representatives have arrived, the general states, "Since it was my idea, I'm first." Turning to the soldier, he says, "Private, I want you to go down that cliff, swim across those 10 miles of shark-infested waters, climb up that sheer cliff and return with two bird eggs... unbroken of course."

The PFC took off running towards the cliff. After performing a triple-lindy into the water, the Ranger swam across the ten miles of ocean (all the while beating off sharks with his bare hands) and reaching the far cliff, he began climbing. Near the top of the cliff, he grabs the two eggs and starts back down (all the time, fighting off mean birds). Upon reaching the sea he swims back across (once again fighting off sharks) and climbs back up the first cliff. He then runs over to the admiral and hands him the two unbroken eggs.

The Marine general says, "That wasn't anything," and turning to his Marine he says, "Corporal, I want you to go down that cliff, swim across those waters, climb that other cliff, then move across the four miles of unmapped jungle and bring me back two eggs from the mountain on the other side of the jungle."

And with that the corporal moved out. Traveling down the cliff, swimming across the sea, climbing the far cliff, moving through the jungle and upon reaching the two eggs, he heads back (all the while fighting off lions, tigers, bears, sharks, and mean birds). Finally reaching the general, the Marine hands him the eggs.

The admiral smiles then says, "Very nice gentlemen," and turning towards his sailor he says, "Chief, I want you to go down that cliff, across that sea, up the far cliff, through the four miles of unmapped jungle, over the mountain and bring me back two eggs from the forest on the other side."

The Chief looks at the admiral, then the cliff, and again back to the admiral, where he says "SCREW YOU SIR, GO GET YOUR OWN EGGS!" renders a proper hand salute and walks away.

The admiral turns towards the other two (both with their jaws on the table) and says "Now gentlemen, THAT'S bravery."

breaking? like in braking the "destroyers" hull?
that was a good laaaaf.
why is everything on here so attentionwhoreiental. nothing can be posted normal, but everything must be hyperventillatorial at all costs.

you keep wondering what it was like in the middle ages and in the supposedly dark days, when there was a sun eclipse or full moon or any kind of happenings.

they shouted burn the witch and attack the enemy. that was their ways to go into madness overdrive and claim all sorts of things.

people cant use their education and common sense any more these days. no wait, they never did. only a very few of them.

other peoples, sheeples and masses fall for the one who whines loudest and puts up most unbelievable and weirdest stories.

mankind will never get visitation by intelligent beings. they laugh and all the petty wars and idiocy on this mudhole and foolish rock called earth.

Oil rose in New York, adding to two weeks of gains, amid concern that political tension in the Middle East may lead to a disruption in crude supplies.
It does raise the main issue in this area,” Dominick Chirichella, a senior partner at the Energy Management Institute in New York, said in a note to clients. “A large number of military vessels are patrolling the area which as we have seen increases the possibility of accidents and thus the potential to slow the flow of traffic through this area.”
