Stanley was a known Rosicrucian/Alchemist.
I can't believe he would betray the order in such a way, spreading darkness, my mind is blown out of proportions.

If the order had known about this, he would have been taken out of commission before his death or at the very least stripped of all of his knowledge for associating with the shadow. We knew about most of Kubricks public works, like A Space Odyssey which is an Hermetic film.
