There is a law that is up to be passed that would get rid of that tax. U.S. Olympic athletes DO NOT get taxed on the medals (except their value added to the other $$). They DO have to pay tax on the money they get; $25K for a gold, $15K for Silver, $10k for Bronze. They pay tax as if it's earned income, so deductions DO apply. AND expenses, and all that. |

I don't see much boasting going on about the U.S. on GLP, it's mostly concerned citizens wondering what happened to their country and wondering how to get it back. People who are taking the moral high ground against people who can't control any of this is really becoming more than nauseating. Any excuse to take a dig. |

So, the medals contributed nothing to our national debt. So OP, your point isn't really all that relevant to our debt. Still good post.. I mean, who would have thought that a non-profit would be spending that much money on $625 trinkets. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19913208 Priorities.... American ones are fucked then why dont stop crying, get off glp, and go feed them I donate to several children's charities. Once a month, our shop donates all of the profit for that day to a local charity. I do not personally have the means to purchase and deliver food wide scale. With what was spent on the Olympics, hundreds of thousands of kids could be fed. So now, tell me what you do to help your fellow man. Besides sitting on YOUR ass watching the olympics OMG! Priceless comments. I donate to our local abortion clinic so I can spend my money on people who make the best of themselves. |

Sure, they want the gold medal, not for the actual gold, but for the recognition of being the worlds best at their sport. It has nothing to do with $ for the athletes, it's about competition and dedication. Quoting: AmericanInfidel I disagree, if your country took away the bounty they pay each athlete for each medal won then you could say what you said and have a good chance of being right, until then, you paid 200 million dollars for some silver, which is what the majority of each medal is made from. Have a good day. |
