The guy had a large sum of cash on him. The cops were looking for a way to silence him and get the cash. The motel was their "attempt" to do so - probably hoping he would fall asleep or something. These LA cops are so stupid they can't even come up with a plausible lie. Yeah, right! They took him to a hotel!!

Let me tell you - in LA anyone who can manage it lives in Beverly Hills or Santa Monica or West Hollywood. At least BH and SM have their own fairly decent PD's and WEHO uses the LASD under contract to provide police services to the city. If they don't do a good job, the contract does not get renewed! The LASD is VERY polite to residents of West Hollywood when they have contact with ordinary citizens.
