I think a part of it is your government[s] have big taxes on everything. They probably justify it by saying it keeps [nationalized 'free'] healthcare costs down. You should see what they have done with are packs now. [link to i47.tinypic.com] I'd be thrilled if the radioactive polonium sticks cost $300 per pack as long as we keep our free healthcare. I lived in the US for a shirt time and I had a "good" health insurance company there, I paid thru the nose for. The service was HORRIBLE. So, yeah. Hike those polonium prices UP, fair Canada. |

Shit you not. No discount tins, no whole sale logs of 5 for sale. Skoal and cope $19-20 bucks. Beat that . Gone up $5 in 3 years. weeeeeee Just proves that the high prices are NOT about the dangers of cigarette smoke! They banned smoking in the workplace here and we used to be able to use chewing tobacco. Now, they say NO TOBACCO PRODUCTS. Explain to me how someone chewing tobacco is damaging to the next person's health. You know it has to be about the money. People are addicted and will pay the price and they know it! |

As more people quit smoking, the tax revenue will dry up. Do you honestly think they'll stop at cigarettes? In fact, they're already starting to target other people. [link to online.wsj.com] |

The cheapest keeps changing. I live in MO and they are about $5/pack for premiums and also in New Hampshire. I do a lot of shopping in NH actually, they have no sales tax. I go with an empty suitcase when I need clothes, bedding, electronics. I bought my laptop there last year, and saved myself around $80 in tax. "Fortune, honour, beauty, youth are but blossoms dying. Trouble is when I was in NZ last time, I swore that if the rollies got as expenisve in Australia as they are over there, I would have to give up. I think their plan is just to price us out of cigarettes so we turn to sweets, and only to tax them too. Grrrrrrr++++++ |

I kid you not, and going up all the time ... another great Australian Tax ripoff. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18216274 Try this online cigarette outlet. They ship to Australia (duty free) and do not charge for postage (registered air mail). [link to www.direct-cigs.com] Right now at this online retailer the cost for a CARTON (10 packs of 20 cigarettes each) of Camel filter cigarettes is $32 USD or $30.43 AUD. Is this a better option for you? I wish you could buy your cigarettes here in Kentucky. It would be much cheaper for you. |
