Why do Brits get so mad at Americans for calling the sport "Soccer"

Soccer is an abbreviation for Association Football. Every kind of football has an abbreviation or nickname. Calling them all just "football" is MADNESS!!! IT'S CALLED SOCCER!!!!

Mention the 'S' word one more time and i'll cut your toes off one by one!

the argument that Soccer should only be called football fails because:

* there are many sports called football, how do people know which one you mean?

* in a typical game of soccer, the ball is regularly touched by many things that aren't feet, such as heads for example, and yes EVEN HANDS!!!! Think about the goalie and the throw-ins!!

I think we call it rounders and is mostly played by pre-teen girls.

We have our own game of football which is much more entertaining that 'soccer'.

As a girl who has played rugby, soccer, and american football, I can tell you the need for pads is not because we are wimps but because of the nature of the game. I have sustained 10 times the injuries in football than any of the other two sports.

The game couldn't be played properly without the protective gear, no team would make it through a season, lol.

But, rugby is the most fun to participate in for sure!
