Telling the Untold Story of the Genocide of Aboriginal Peoples in Canada
WOW

Exposure of the Canadian genocide has simultaneously indicted the social order that gave rise to it. Euro-Canadian Christian society as a whole stands condemned in the dock alongside those persons who ran the Indian residential schools, sterilized and murdered children, spread smallpox, and dug mass graves.

Re: Telling the Untold Story of the Genocide of Aboriginal Peoples in Canada
ok sure those things did happen and it was unfortunate but times were different back then and exposure(which is happening now) and means of communication are different with the availability of phones, computers, internet and the television.
Back then availability of having a hierarchical system (need to know)and ignorance due to very limited education of the masses and stuff like this coming to light was probably quite difficult or damn near impossible.
I dislike that it happened but Canadians in general (pretty big paint brush) are disgusted that people they trusted abused the the positions within the churches given to these people (trusted).
Back then there was a lot of ignorance about the subject and the assimilation of the native people was thought to be necessary for them to carve out a life in our country...
We here in Canada (big brush again) would like for them to make lives for themselves and contribute to a better and worthier society (where life is earned).
But they have (not all) their problems and influences (go watch APTN it never addresses the big issues) and a lot of elders who poison there children (guilt for their inability to adapt)to the Europeans and blame everyone else (as they put the bottle of alcohol to their lips).
I am of Native (WATERED DOWN) heritage but I really do not identify with them (family)there is very few examples shown of the ones who adapted and bettered themselves and it is quite unfortunate.
I am self taught in reading (young age) and have spent my whole life learning about different cultures, history and stuff.
I personally have a big old tribe (family) but they have very little inclination to educating themselves and for some reason the ones i have met drink a lot (even though studies have shown alcohol is quite detrimental to their well being, something about their people not really having grain alcohols to begin with) and sure it is not a general reflection of all natives there are some that have adapted fine kept their cultures and just forgot to throw out their traditions..
To many tribes here in Canada elect people on the basis of family instead of ability and skill and that generational chief crap, especially here on the west coast but now that feminism is in full swing and women feel empowered (delusional as emotions are easily manipulated) I would expect things to become more difficult for the younger generation.
Sure Us Canadians did not have the safe guards in place so those in positions of Trust (power) would not abuse it but times were different (limited communications and awareness) but hey you must be one of those who think we need to be reminded (guilt) all the time of the sin of ignorant jesuit pawns.

Throughout history you can find examples of hostile take overs of lands in the world. How it was done is shameful, however, it is history. We do not do any of those things anymore here in NA. Natives here need to grow into Canada, it has been over 140 years since we became a country and they still live like the did 100 years ago, does not make sense. IMHO.

Re: Telling the Untold Story of the Genocide of Aboriginal Peoples in Canada
It would be nice but i see them everyday(younger generation) and there is little or no identity. I observe them calling themselves n*****"* like they are black and the younger girls talking about how being a slut is paramount (young girls 10-13)and like... poverty and a lack of resources (the band)bases a lot of stuff on heredity instead of being earned.
Just a little story once years ago met a girl on the bus (native)and she was exclaiming the virtues of being a princess because she was related to the chief and how she was special.
I was disgusted by her attitude and opinion (based on nothing earned)and how she was entitled (must be a walt disney movie fan also Walt must being writhing in disgust to what was done to his company) she seemed entitled to all things without achieving anything except being related... as though everything (wisdom, experience and skill) is passed down because she is related.
I watch APTN and see how they put useless idiots on a pedestal with specialized bullshit and they just regurgitate what the elders taught them without actually being back then to understand why or the reasons for it.
They also use their supposed traditions as rhetoric and a justification for a return to the old ways (butchering and slaughtering each other for holy sites and or access to food) and how they dismiss all developments (as if they they have an education)as though it is the enemy.
They see the world (younger generation though not all) through parents and grandparents eyes and supposed elders opinions.
It is to bad and perhaps unfortunate for the ones who actually listen to that bullshit (guilt) and perceive the outside world as as threat to them while the poison is happening in the reserve.
They now with white guilt on the rise well seem to have a say in Canada's developing resource base without being educated to understand all the issues being handled and why... they have a hate on and it comes from a lot of backward leaders (tradionalist who want power)who use emotion to fuel the ignorant among them..

Re: Telling the Untold Story of the Genocide of Aboriginal Peoples in Canada
They must get money from special interest groups (environmentalists) to fund the backlash of all the developments that would be a beneficial to them and our country... I watched an interesting show on CBC and the one guy (white)educated and skilled in his position and probably earned) asked why do the natives not leave the reserve and find work elsewhere and this native woman replied with a lot of mumbo jumbo (feminist talk).
They usually do not leave because their families are quite good at guilting the children that it is them against the world and without the children who would listen to them (the more observant probably do leave) and those ones have a high probability of success upon realizing they were lied to.
That though does not guarantee success because if one is unaware (to trusting) of how people prey on each other. well the outside world can be cruel..
Being alone in the big world without awareness (defense) against all bullshit going on, can and does create situations where ones life and well being can be challenged.

What sucks the most, is people (does not matter the color) bring their children down with traditions or outdated beliefs(usually based on ignorance)and then tie the children emotionally to making the child identify with the person as a source of their well being (favoured)and teaching the children very little as an excuse for their short comings and seems so successfully done to generations of people everywhere (lol)

You're correct. I work with Karen refugees from Burma. The tribal groups of Burma suffer under boot of the ethnic Burmese. Goes back, in large part, to broken promises the British made to the tribal groups in Burma during WW2.

Re: Telling the Untold Story of the Genocide of Aboriginal Peoples in Canada
Most of the Canadian land mass is under Native self-government (Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Nunatsiaq). The Yukon is about 50% white so it is not totally Native run.

Aboriginal people are recognised under the Canadian constitution as one of the founding nations of Canada.

In the 20th century, Natives got marginalised and suffered a lot, but we are working to redress those wrongs. Still, Canada has a much better record than the USA in its treatment of Native people.

That is why, 200 years ago, many Native tribes from what is now USA territory joined their northern brothers under the leadership of Tecumseh and the Shawnee, to kick your asses in the war of 1812.

Seventy years later, Sitting Bull's Sioux slaughtered General Custer and his men at Little Big Horn before crossing the border where they surrendered to a single Mountie and his Metis interpreter. My children are descended from those refugees.

It's pretty funny for an American, given his country's glorification of the genocide of the Indians, to be pointing the finger at Canada, a Metis nation.

Re: Telling the Untold Story of the Genocide of Aboriginal Peoples in Canada
ya but study and acquisition (robbing)of history has been under the boot heel of well funded organizations that would rather us be bred and taught as though we are descendants of monkeys (evolution) that is another thread already (lol) most peoples have unique histories and it is kept bottled up or diluted through the use of religions (missionaries) who would rather not that those histories see the light of day as it would shed upon their souls the delusions they would rather feel (emotions) than trying to understand from a varied perspective.
and we in Canada have given them money and such but I still see tons of examples of poor leadership through governing without understanding the influences that rob the natives of a chance to better themselves (educate) to drawn from within!!!
It is unfortunate that in Canada these things have happened but am I responsible and should all Canadians pay (remember i am also native) I do not think so go take a look at the reserves that have had money from oil and such they really do not look all that different from a ghetto (with a few sections perhaps) you can not just keep giving money to people that are corrupt (leaders)and do not want to be accountable to any one especially their own people let alone Canadians EH?.
you can not keep giving money to people who do not appreciate it and use it wisely because they do not know the value of the money because they did not earn it.
(that is why i place no value in godless soulless people who want everything for nothing.)

Idle no more movement receives support by First Nations in Williams Lake
By Monica Lamb-Yorski - Williams Lake Tribune
First Nations in and around Williams Lake protested Dec. 21 to show support for chief Theresa Spence of Attawapiskat in Northern Ontario who is on the eleventh day of a hunger strike to protest Bill C-45.
Around 50 First Nations leaders and community members gathered outside city hall ,before making a peaceful procession through the city, to continue what Canoe Creek chief David Archie said the ancestors started when the first visitors arrived.
“Our ancestors have been dealing with this for a long time and now it’s our turn,” Archie said..............

Some of this is just stupid. What if I took away all you had. Beat you for your belief system. Molested you. Jailed you. Raped your women and children.Beat you for speaking your first language. Confined you to a tiny plot of land where you had to ask permission to leave. And then after I have broken generations of your people, said "OK sorry". Now prosper. Do you think you would prosper immediately? Laws prohibiting native culture were finally lifted in 1951. I'll write that again. 1951! Are natives to just forget all that. Alcohol and drug abuse by natives is a direct result of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Go read a treaty signed by Canada and a nation. You'll quickly see Canada is not upholding it's part.
