[link to www.bloomberg.com] from wiki Hydrocracking In 1920, a plant for the commercial hydrogenation of brown coal was commissioned at Leuna in Germany.[5] Hydrocracking is a catalytic cracking process assisted by the presence of an elevated partial pressure of hydrogen gas. Similar to the hydrotreater, the function of hydrogen is the purification of the hydrocarbon stream from sulfur and nitrogen hetero-atoms. The products of this process are saturated hydrocarbons; depending on the reaction conditions (temperature, pressure, catalyst activity) these products range from ethane, LPG to heavier hydrocarbons consisting mostly of isoparaffins. Hydrocracking is normally facilitated by a bifunctional catalyst that is capable of rearranging and breaking hydrocarbon chains as well as adding hydrogen to aromatics and olefins to produce naphthenes and alkanes. Major products from hydrocracking are jet fuel and diesel, while also high octane rating gasoline fractions and LPG are produced. [6] All these products have a very low content of sulfur and other contaminants. It is very common in Pakistan, Europe and Asia because those regions have high demand for diesel and kerosene. In the US, Fluid Catalytic Cracking is more common because the demand for gasoline is higher. |

SHR Forum Administrator 08/16/2012 10:00 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | LAPLACE, La. - Around 5 a.m. Thursday, two St. John deputies were killed and two deputies were shot in LaPlace while providing security for a parking lot for Valero Energy. One of the injured deputies was sent to the hospital via helicopter, and both are in surgery. The incident occurred on Highway 3217 in the Valero parking lot. The remote parking lot is located in St. John Parish, while the actual plant is located in St. Charles Parish. Multiple agencies are involved, including a Jefferson Parish SWAT unit, a K-9 unit, St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office, St. John Parish Sheriff's Office, New Orleans Police Department and the state police. Also, helicopters are circling the area. State Police spokeswoman Melissa Matey said two suspects are in custody and a search is on for a third. [link to www.wwltv.com] 3 suspects in custody searching for a forth...Valero plant being evac'd too... Statement from Valero...listen to the second witness interview from the link below...this sounds very strange..more so than one would think for something like a drug deal gone bad... Valero Energy released the following statement: This morning there was a shooting involving law enforcement officers providing security at an off-site parking lot used by contractors working at the Valero St. Charles Refinery. Valero employees offer their thoughts and prayers to the officers and the families of the officers involved in the shooting. Refinery operations have not been affected. The incident remains under investigation, and questions about the incident itself should be referred to local law enforcement. Any contractor who normally parks in the Montz lot should not report to work today. All other employees and contractors should report as scheduled. Interesting....wonder if they were attempting to venture into an industry some (like maybe BP and the US Gov) may not want them to venture into (here)...not sure how prevalent hydrocracking is or was in the US, but I'm wondering if the lack thereof could have some impact on the skyrocketed cost of diesel in the US. Also, Valero is Shell, and this hydrocracking project is a technology they seem to have a corner on.... From the LSU Tiger site...someone saying they caught this off a scanner...see if I can find an active scanner..or if someone else can beat me to it... Just over the scanner: another trooper found a loaded ammo magazine seemed to be dropped while suspect(s) were running. Currently focusing on a wooded area near the original scene.
