Weird Phone Call...

Good afternoon GLP - I wonder if anyone has had a similar call to the one I just got a bit ago?

My cellphone rang and the display read "withheld." Usually I don't answer those, but it's unusual on my cell - and it's been an unusual day, so I did. It was a Spanish-accented guy who said a family member [of mine] had been in a wreck... I asked who it was - he said: "your brother..." well, I don't have a brother but I decided to play along.

Is my brother ok? He assured me that he was, but that he had given them my number so I could "help him." He asked my name, and I asked who my brother said I was. He played the "no habla Englais" game. But, seriously his diction and syntaxt had been great up until that point. So, I asked where he was: "Vienna." What's the name of the gas station you're at? Again he understands the question but can't tell me - so I ask him to tell me in English...

He goes through the spiel about my brother again, but can't give me a street name. So, I say put him on the phone... Well, long story short another guy comes on and starts yelling and threatening to "put a bullet in his head," ect. So, then they hang up...

So, do you think I got some poor sap whacked, or was it just a lame scam of some sort by some scurrilous immigrants?

Interestingly though, someone used my debit card today to make illicit purchases online and I had to have it cancelled... And I had a random pee test yesterday at work... So, is this an op?
