take a practical point view: on sunday, most of the many many churches in the netherlands are filled with people. on sunday in belgium, most of the many many churches are almost empty.

since you like numbers: provide some statistics on the number of active pastors/priests per capita.

From what I understand the Chatholic churches are empty in southern Neth. and I also assume I Bel. I'm second generation Canadian being half Flemish and Dutch descent and also catholic. My wife's parents are also Dutch and catholic. My wife has been to Neth. several times to the Tilburg, Breda area near the Belgian border. She can confirm that the Catholic churches are empty, only the older people still go. I talk to alot of people everyday that still visit southern Neth. and east and west Flanders and they love going there. The catholic boers or farmers in these areas are some of the best partiers in the area and love their beer. The northern Dutch above the Maas river are predominantly protestant(Dutch Reform) and are more refined and reservered and cling more to their religion. Here in Ontario the situation is the same.

And you either belong to the notorious '1%', or you have absolutely no clue at all of what's really going on - that is the coming of the New World Order - Police State USA/EU.

Eh, Nederlanders are what I would call "Berkeley Liberal" - ultraliberal on issues that don't directly affect them, ultraconservative on issues that do.

If you're looking for cheaper apartments in the Netherlands, your best bet is to look OUTSIDE the Randstaad. If you don't know what "Randstaad" is, look it up.

Then again, places outside the Randstaad also tend to be rural too, so be prepared for less stuff happening. And less jobs on offer too.

Yeah, crime in Nederland is somewhat different. I remember a coworker telling me that if you murder someone, you might be able to get off without jail time but if you cheat on your taxes, expect the death penalty.

Oh yes, take a train ride from anywhere to anywhere in the Randstaad and count the number of minarets you see while in transit.

But that's not just an issue in Nederland - UK has that problem now, and it's spreading throughout all of europe. France has banned headscarves, etc. Europe is not what it used to be, part of the reason I left and came back.

Well, what to expect when you move to Holland?

Let me tell you as an expert on Holland.
(I was born in The Netherlands)
First, when you land at Schiphol Airport and you move from the naked scanner to Amsterdam City Center please keep your hand on your wallet all the time.(Before you know it, it is gone).
And don't be afraid when you drive through the country to see many hundreds of mosques along the way. These mosques all form a network so once the muslems have taken over here you will be beheaded when you do not convert to their pagan religion. So be prepared to loose your head in the long run.

Further, expect a lot of burocracy and a bunch of people, especially the Dutch Government, who are all after your money.

Yes, we do have immigrants here which don't integrate as we wish, fact is that the Netherlands is an awesome country to live in with lots of good opportunities for honest, wellwilling, hardworking people.

In my opinion people are always looking to and blaming the government for their problems but Forget They have their own responsibility too. Stop spreading this BS about " Mosques" and stuff, simply not true.

If any of you Americans ever decide trying to live the American Dream for real, try to do that overhere :-)

I am even willing to help possible US immigrants coming here :-)

personally, i love the southerns parts of the netherlands (province Noord-Brabant and Limburg). they are, for me, the ideal mixture between the dutch and the flemish people. there is also a lot more nature, compared to most other provinces in the netherlands.

on both sides of the border in these provinces, you will always have a mixture of both cultures. the actual 'border' is just a sign saying "welcome to holland/belgium" anyway, tollbooths and border police stations have gone since a decade.

if you like to live in a smaller town with plenty of cultural accomodations, and easy public transport to the rest of the netherlands and belgium, try Tilburg.
