Congrats OP. Great destination.
Maybe a bit more expensive than
the US midwest.
But you'll feel very safe and cars
there keep an eye out for walkers
and bike riders.

Thank you very much. I agree with you on it being a great destination and it's nice to hear. You have any plans on visiting or moving there yourself?

Okay, this is my third day at this thread. I appreciate all the input from everyone. I'll be back tomorrow and it will probably be my last day to stay at this thread like I have been.

But please feel free to post your thoughts. I've enjoyed seeing what everyone says. I've found a lot of nice people here at GLP!!!!

And for the Dutch, I look forward to partying with you pretty soon, LOL!!!

The census results don't care what you believe of them.
Unless you personally interviewed 10,000 people you're the one who doesn't have any data, only anecdote.
 Quoting: Halcyon Dayz, FCD

statistics are flawed by nature. a small sample can never represent a whole, unless it the whole was evenly distributed. our world isn't.

There you go again, pulling 'data' out of a body orifice.
 Quoting: Halcyon Dayz, FCD

no. i actually spent years in churches on sunday mornings, in both the netherlands and belgium.

I was surprised to learn that the population density of the Netherlands (404 pop/km^2) is actually slightly less then England's [sic].

that, i didn't expect too.

Find a nice rural place to live in the south or the east. The west is not the place to live, it's only nice for daytrips or partying in which case our small size and good public transport will get you there in no time.

Get accustomed with the folowing foods: drop, bitterballen, pannenkoeken, haring en boerenkool!

I looked up Dutch cuisine. Bitterballen and haring en boerenkool weren't listed!!! So, maybe it depends where you live for those two.

I don't mind licorice but without salt and pancakes...who doesn't like them?

Thanks for the tip re: south or east. I will look there for sure.

I'll be moving to The Netherlands soon. I just need to find a room to rent somewhere.

What can I expect? Culture shock? Immigrant prejudices?

Why the hell would you move to this stupid country? Most people very boring and shallow just as the landscape (which is really not natural at all.) The climate SUCKS, and every neighbourhood outside the cities is the most depressing thing you'll ever see. The only good thing about the Netherlands is Amsterdam! Everywhere else you will feel lost and out of place as an American.

No, all "Netherlanders" are Dutch. But not all Netherlanders are Hollanders. Holland is two provinces.

We don't call all Canadians "Ontarians", do we?

So Netherlanders and Dutch are synonymous, but Holland and Netherlands aren't

it's pretty obvious that Dutchies have SOMETHING TO HIDE!!! Otherwise why would they need THREE DIFFERENT NAMES for their people and country!?!!?!!!??!?!?

Yeah, crime in Nederland is somewhat different. I remember a coworker telling me that if you murder someone, you might be able to get off without jail time but if you cheat on your taxes, expect the death penalty.
