I do a job where I do inspections of forestry operations.

This week my colleague and I came across two large marijuana grow ops and herein lies my problem.

Neither of us smoke weed but neither of us give a rats ass if people want to. To each their own.

We don't want to rat the growers out because they will go to prison BUT we have no choice to report it to our superiors.

Why we don't have a choice is because in both instances equipment will be moving into these locations and they need our report as to what to do on the sites.

Our superiors are managers who will promptly report this to authorities. We have no way to contact the growers and if we did we may be considered accomplices.

As it is we already may have broke the law by not calling the cops ASAP. There is still a good month left in the growing season so these guys will be busted sure as shit.

Any advice?

At this point, noone knows who is growing it, unless it's on their own property?

It is growing on my companies land. These are people using it as their weed garden, without permission of course.

I'd maybe leave a note in a kind of joking way. Not traceable to you. Just like hey you might not wanna grow here. But that's me.

well we tied flagging tape to trees in the area as part of our job - the growers should see that but it may be too late.

Nothing wrong with growing weed, I'll agree.

But, being a dumbass and growing weed on someone else's property is the mark of a dumbass.

Stupid hurts.

jesus, unimaginative folks you have up north. "accidently" drop some innocuous company letterheaded junk in a few places on the grow site. if they have half a brian, they put 2 and 2 together. if complete morans, they were bound to get busted anyway. do what your job requires, its not like you didnt know this could be something you had to deal with when you took the job. if it really might cost you some sleep, go to the closest bar to the site and loudly "discuss" the incident with a drinking buddy, including the rough location. the grower will hear in a matter of a few hours, lol.

This seems right because if you worry about them going to jail and that's your concern about doing the job you shouldn't worry about them. They are growing it on someone elses property because they can't be connected to it. As long as they haven't left evidence behind the cops will just destroy (or sell) it. Next time you go leave boot marks everywhere (or more tape) and let it be known it's been found as you look at your job manual that evening to do the right thing--

There was a movie like this, I don't remember the name sorry.
Someone left a note on a tree telling the growers, and when they came back a few days later there was a duffel bag full of weed and a note that said thanks.

That you consider this a tough decision or a moral quandary is disturbing to me. If you are old enough to have a real job and do not yet know the difference between right and wrong, then I have a problem with your parent's parenting.

Who Determines Right from Wrong?

Right from Wrong is based a lot on point of view....

The world isn't black and white.. it is varying shades of gray...

The shades of gray just get harder to decipher as you get older, and things that seemed wrong before, had a good reason, and while not the best of reasons..

Of course this is a convo that would best be had with examples other than the OPs....

I rest my case. Who determines? I do and those who came before me. It is a lesson learned or not learned in childhood. Shades of gray is just an excuse used by those too weak of will to stand firm. I am old, but I am not dead yet, nor am I willing to bow to popular opinion that wrong is right or gray is undecidable. Sorry if you cannot understand the differences or have fallen victim to political or cultural correctness.

You are too funny. Political and moral correctness has become a gooey mash of lukewarm pablum, serving the masses who worship themselves and choose gray as their version of white. It is a weakness, not a strength. The movie "Idiocracy" was a horror story, not a comedy, because it is truth. Sadly so.

I went back and left a note telling them that their goose is cooked and time to bring in their tomato plants. Area will be sprayed with herbicide to kill all non-conifer vegetation in the next 48 hours. No cops involved but their crop is toast because it had not budded yet.

Sounds like you should just have it destroyed and the perps hopefully won't get caught.

Seems like a win/win even those they loose their crop they don't go to jail.
