Also, if you are 5 miles from detroit, and people 30 minutes away smell it - I should be smelling the exact smell you describe, and so should many others posting in here, but they don't. So we need to better pinpoint your location so we can figure out the area effected.

I am approximately 2 miles south of downtown Detroit and everything is normal. No smell and my dog is normal.

Thank you and I'm glad you're not seeing anything however I would also not discount the ant/bird story from that area, they were eyewitness accounts from what seemed like very good souls.

I'm sure most dogs wouldl react and try to warn their owner. A lot of dog owners would notice these warnings. There will be much talk about the dogs. In no time a whole city will now there is something going on. Because this is not happening I think there is not a big problem with your air quality.

I live in Michigan about 40 miles from Detroit and I remember a while back a local news station did a report showing how local fire departments are training their firefighters for earthquake emergency situations. I found it odd and somewhat disturbing being that EQ's don't happen in this area. They only aired this story 1 time and never mentioned anything more about it.
I haven't noticed anything odd with ants or birds but I have noticed a sulfur smell in one area that was very strong for a few weeks.

You guys are making yourself crazy. Not only ants or birds would give signs. Or dogs. All animals do have sensors for upcoming danger. Remember that Tsunami. Even elaphants went way before the happening to higher places and no one could stop them. So, nature will tell if something is underway. Watch the animals, all of them! All looking normal, then there is for sure nothing wrong with your environment.

I'm not too far away, Indianapolis..This is just a side note, to go with the wierd animal behavior in these areas. Last night a bat was flying (very normal) and it smacked hard right into my sliding glass door which was closed. (not normal) Now some who don't know will say: bats don't see well, maybe it didn't see because of the glass, or it was attracted to the light. Bats use SONAR to see, it's sound waves should have alerted it before it hit my door. It totally freaked me out.

I am in No. CA. and there were NO 5 pt earthquakes in Ca. the other day. that's why the error was removed from USGS.

It was Fox 2 Detroit and if I remember correctly, it was the Livonia fire department that they were interviewing. I can't remember how long ago it was though....might have been last fall or early winter?

There are some very convincing liars and attention whores on here. One person reads about ants going nutty and says 'yeah i noticed that too ants are going nutty here too!" and then it snowballs. People have learned what the signs of impending large quake are and so they make up bullshit threads claiming stuff that isn't happening so they can work people into a frenzy for entertainment.

I travel all around CA doing photography. Nature photography, in particular birds. I'm around them often and know their behavior. I have not seen anything different.

I am curious why people keep referring to the New Madrid fault zone as being in the "midwest". it's mostly toward the eastern side of the U.S.
