I was visiting West Virginia in late July and noticed a strong sulfur smell on I-79 between Elkview and Amma (about 40 mi N of Charleston). Of course WV has lots of geothermal activity, including the famous White Sulfur Springs in the Eastern Panhandle region, but this part of WV is not noted for springs or anything else except hardwood timber.

Could be a Paper Mill. I know when i drive through Covington, VA, the MeadWestvaco paper mill spews sulfur into the air and it smells of sulfur for miles. I live 20 miles from this mill and can occasionally smell it at my house, depending on the winds.

Are there any paper mills in the detroit area or any type of manufacturing plant in that area that is using sulfur?

When earthquakes come in swarms, especially in places not known for earthquakes, then it's WEATHER WARFARE.
That shit is REAL and it's happening NOW.

I don't know exactly where it is located in this video but it does talk about it. [link to www.youtube.com]
This is an excellent documentary BTW.

I have ducks and chickens. They are always busy and when the windows are open, you can hear them going about their business talking amongst each other.

Yesterday, the windows were open and there were no sounds. None at all. I went to see what was going on and the ducks were all laying on the ground. Not walking around, not sifting through their water, just laying. The chickens were on the branches of the trees. Everyone was quiet. That's as abnormal as it gets.

Oddly, nothing is indicated on the seismograph today. The chickens are out of the trees, the ducks are moving around, but they are a lot more quiet than usual.

Don't know what's up, but something is, and they know.

Oh dear the link to anf has been posted. *sigh*

That link provides uncleaned events, and it should really not be used by the public, because it leads to threads like this. Stick with USGS folks. A lot of what you are seeing on that list are mine blasts and stuff.

The seismogram posted is simply a teleseism from the 7.7 in Russia. I checked the times, and that's what it is. The other stuff is just noise, not seismic. I have confirmed that with frequency analysis.

Now I don't know about the sulfur smells, but seriously, to claim volcanism and magma movement is just irresponsible. Do you know how long it takes volcanologists to reach that conclusion? A long time. Focal mechanisms have to be calculated and a lot of other things. And that's only if there are associated earthquakes, which there haven't been, because you are using a list (anf) that shows man made activity.

This thread is a cluster fuck, to be honest...sorry.

First of all, I am not a geologist, but rather merely an interested observer with a background in other types of science. However, if I were a geologist I wouldn’t call someone a “dipshit” just because they are asking questions. Science (true science, and not the watered down version that we are often fed) asks questions. The point is to ask questions to discover more about our world.

That being said, I have been following the North American Craton and it’s failed rift systems and how they might relate to potential future events in the New Madrid and Yellowstone for a while.

[link to www.earthscope.org]

This image shows some of the failed rift systems, one of which is located within the upper Great Lakes system.

[link to www.google.com]

"The Midcontinent Rift, also known as the Keweenawan Rift, is a 1,200 mile-long, 20-40 mile wide (Anderson) rift formation that occurred between 1.0 and 1.1 billion years ago (Ga). The rift runs through Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas. In addition to the expanse of the rift itself, adjacent basins are filled with over 3,500 cubic miles of sedimentary rocks that are derived from geomorphic processes associated with the rift. The mechanisms by which the rift opened and closed are not known for sure, but it has been hypothesized that both crustal extension and later, compression, is correlated with the formation and breakup of a large supercontinent called Rodinia (Levin, 2005).”

Now, I am not saying that the events that you are witnessing are related to this system, but there seems to be much that geologists admittedly do not know about this failed rift system. Your observations at least merit an informed and civil discussion. I have become so tired of the rudeness and childish behavior on GLP that I have been scarce here, but for some reason I felt a need to respond to this. Real science is about questions, keep asking questions!!! My 2 cents anyway.hf

Re: Major Geological Event possibly happening in Michigan...important information inside, updates as they come in.
Most are aware of all the EQ's going on in the Midwest. Southern States and the West Coast, if you don't, go here to have a look at just the last week:

[link to anf.ucsd.edu]

Rumors of a large EQ lurking in CA, eyewitness stories of ants moving to high ground in homes bypassing food sources (can't find the thread, any help?) and acting disoriented and birds falling from the sky, staying on the ground and acting disoriented all in Northern CA,. Mind you, not all of the quakes are showing up on USGS and (2) 5+ EQ's in CA were proven to be deleted from the site a cpl days ago.

Friday a coworker told me he witnessed the ants for himself late last week and I'll be damned if it didn't happen in our home yesterday morning! In the foyer by the front door running in circles and acting disoriented, we're in a 3rd floor apt and yes we're clean. No food source present and they just stayed there in a circle milling around and fighting.

I left work yesterday afternoon and while on the hghwy I noticed a strong sulfur smell and started to feel ill and aggitated within minutes, I live 35mi from work and I smelled it all the way home, my son works with me and was in the car,, he experienced the same. That's 35 miles folks, pretty damned large area, you can't even smell the fireworks in Detroit from a few miles out. When I arrived home and talked to my lady about it she said, "I smelled it last night, I was going to wake you",, wtf?!? She was walking our dog and heard no fireworks at all. Kobe (our pitbull) has been acting very strangely the last cpl days as well, hasn't left our side and lays either right on top or under our legs, he's definitely spooked about something. There was also a water main break at the college across the road from us, may be just coincidence but then again...

This isn't my first rodeo folks, the ants and birds=electromagnetic disturbances...large sulfur dioxide releases(sulfur smell)=volcanic activity. Michigan hasn't had a volcano in 2.5 billion years!

Helicorder from Ann Arbor(60mi away) 3 days ago, these usually have little to no activity:

[link to folkworm.ceri.memphis.edu]

That's not an EQ, it's sustained movement, magma IMO.

Main page, check out other areas:

[link to www.ceri.memphis.edu]

USGS:Magma contains dissolved gases that are released into the atmosphere during eruptions. Gases are also released from magma that either remains below ground (for example, as an intrusion) or is rising toward the surface. In such cases, gases may escape continuously into the atmosphere from the soil, volcanic vents, fumaroles, and hydrothermal systems.

The most abundant gas typically released into the atmosphere from volcanic systems is water vapor (H2O), followed by carbon dioxide (CO2) and sulfur dioxide (SO2).

Couple all this with the unexplained refinery and building explosions, sinkholes, methane releases, radiation spikes around the country as high as 3000cpm's in places where it is unlikely to be caused by Fukushima, most within 3 days of an EQ in the same area suggesting large, 'naturally produced Radon' releases, and a spike in train derailments in varying locations around the country. Lot's of great info and links on it all here:

Thread: Crustal displacement appears to be happening NOW

Search 'Jumping Jack Flash Hypothesis' for a comprehensive list of explosions and other event anonalies

If I took more time I'm sure I could tie in numerous other events and anomalies that have occurred just over the last cpl weeks. There seems to be a large geological event, possibly on a continental scale, brewing right under our feet and it's ready to pop. I'd really like a qualified individual to tell me otherwise.

Any Geophysicists in the house that want to chime in here?

Anyone in the Midwest, New Madrid Areas and the West Coast, if you've experienced any significant seismic precursors recently, ants, birds, sulfur smells, EQ lights etc etc, please post them here.

USGS does NOT hide earthquake data at all, and that ridiculous accusation only comes from ignorance and misunderstandings of how local and regional seismic networks actually work- and especially with auto detection methods that are in place which can and frequently do report false quakes which have to be removed. There is no conspiracy there.

We are very connected and have friends with sites in different areas of the country that we can bugout to as well as up in the Gaylord area should we need to go north.

Detroit will be a nightmare in any SHTF scenario, I work in Dearborn right on the border of the D and I AM not comfortable here at all.
