Are methane hydrates dissolving? Is the Methane layer is thawing ? | |

Agricultural water well drilling is on the increase as drought is felt across much of N. America. Aquifers are being drawn down faster than replenish rate, (in a few cases the aquifers don't receive any surface replenishment). These agricultural wells draw serious amounts of water. Also, I've seen many people complain about a funny smell around the world.....Why is this an interest to me? Because, I live 20ft from a closed Landfill site. It was closed around 1978. The last couple of weeks, I have been smelling this awful spell, smells a little like normal household gas but slightly different....Anyway, a couple of nights ago, it was so bad that I contacted my local Council who logged my call and said that he would pass this along to someone else.....After the phone call, I looked up on various gasses that come from landfill sites, methane is one of them, but Methane is odourless.....but, they add an additive that makes it smell... The next day, I got a call from the Environment Agency that covers the whole of the UK, WTF, I only phoned my local council to complain, who I thought was going to pass it along to the Environment office at the local council, not send to the Top Dog agency...Anyways, I actually missed the call and he left a message on my answerphone, he basically said that they were aware of the situation and that they were monitoring it......Saved the message.. After searching the web more, I noticed alot of stories about other land fill sites leaking methane recently with evac orders that were put in place.....There seems to be a lot of methane leaking from these sites....this all got me thinking about other things, like the Methane in the ocean leaking thread and also, on Volcano Cafe, the people of El Hierro are complaining of a eggy smell..Experts have said that this is nothing to do with the Islands volcanic events.... There was also a thread that mentioned that people were smelling a funny odor in the US as well...This funny smell that people are complaining of seems to be widespread... Could there be a change in pressure or something that is drawing these gasses out? |
