Radiation Protection: Reverse Osmosis & Carbon Charcoal Filters!
After fukishima happend I researched the EPA's Web site and learned that to effectively remove radiation from water you must use both Carbon charcoal and RO filtering system. I bought a unit and it works great.

Trinity I know we are not suppose to post comercial interests here i want to list this unit because it is so cheap it has a pump and it works so well. I do not sell the unit or am i receiving anything for posting this. But people need to know that their tap water contains radiation and this unit works! If you have to remove this post I understand!

You can find it here: [link to www.amazon.com]

Activated charcoal will remove most of the radiation from water, not all of it, but allot. It will remove cesium and radon, radium etc, one problem is that over time the filter will it's self become radioactive and then you much either replace the charcoal, or wash it out with acid. A wonderful kitchen chemistry type experiment is to get an activated charcoal filter and run it for a month or so, and then run some sulfuric or hydrochloric acid through it and you will get metal compounds from all the shit in your water, you will see colors. Good times.

...it works great?...how much radiation is in your water ?...how did you measure it?...were both samples from the same source ?...how did your water become contaminated in the first place?...

I used a soeks detector with a probe! Regular tap water, Poured it out onto a napkin then measured it! It varies between 50 and 80 cpm before and 1 to 2 sometimes as high as 5 cpm after being filtered. The unit really works. Lots of parts but was worth it. It takes about a hour to hook up!

I would imagine fallout from fukishima, however greenville has had radioactive water for a long time due to leaks up stream from nuclear power plants.

I bet its radon, you can measure the half-life quite easily, run some water into your napkin, or better yet even a filter, then record the counts per minute every say 6 hours over the course of a week. Radon has a ~3.5 day half-life, and you will be able to see this behavior quite nicely.

You can also do this with a vacuum cleaner and a hanker-chief, try it in your basement, amuse your friends.
