The world as an Ant.
I was out on the deck smoking a "hand rolled cigarette", and saw an ant passing by. I started to think about the life of an ant.

More importantly the life of every living thing. And how we hold it in such low regard. How many time have you killed an insect rather than just brush it aside. Or killed it just for "fun" or "the hell of it".

We (as a group) do this to just about every form of life on earth. No matter how big the size. We will slaughter elephants, dophins, monkeys, and everything else. For the trophy, research, the thrill. Not even for "food".

Living the scale of an ant would change much in my viewpoint of the world. I would be able to lift many times my body weight. And build things as amazing as any human could (on their scale). Navigate underground tunnels in the dark that would have a human spinning.

But along comes a human and smashed his finger down on it. Their "god" coming to punish them. Destroy them. Flick them with a finger across the ground.

Makes me also wonder,... If there are more advanced civilizations than ours, what must they think of us? How insignificant would we be to some of their members?

Sorry for the "tree hugger" talk. But something has gotten to me lately. I love bacon! Love meat! But, it has been getting more difficult to eat meat. Damn I love bacon!
bacon

Fruits and vegetables are written about as our "meat" in books, scripture, etc. They have never been my thing(besides potatoes).

Anyhow, has just been on my mind recently.

Dharmma/Dhamma.

I read it was the answer to what is "right/wrong". If what you do effects another being in a negative way, then it is wrong.

Pretty simple. This is how dhamma was described to me.

Sometimes you might step on an ant, but should not try to go out of your way to do it. Hunting for food is about where I draw the line I guess. But I suppose even that isnt necessary anymore. But damn I love bacon.

Self defense is something else? I dont think you should just have to die if a bear attacks you. Threatens your lively hood. etc.

Edit: If the fire ants arent close enough to be a threat, then let them be, I guess. If they are effecting your farm/livelyhood/etc. Then they have to go?

IMO.

Re: The world as an Ant.
Just dispatched a few hundred ants tonight with ant powder... they were getting out of hand and crawling up my leg out here on the balcony... plus hijacking my coffee pot on a daily basis... they aren't so bad when they march in columns, it's when they spread out over a large floor area so every step gets 10 or more...
