Seems logical to me.

I get how this is meant to work. It's pretty inefficient. This board has no love for Tesla

Inefficient?! It's working off the energy of a permanent magnet! There's no other energy input. The thing will keep running as long as the atoms in the magnet are aligned.

The device is so simple it's hard for me to imagine how they faked it. The only way to really debunk this is to build one yourself.

Permanent magnets are a perpetual favorite for perpetual motion machines. Never mind that this would have to violate the first law of thermodynamics (conservation of mass and energy) to actually work. Never mind that magnetism is a "conservative" force, meaning that no matter how complicated your machine's motions may be, if all the parts return to their starting points then any energy it produces is exactly equal to the energy consumed throughout the cycle -- minus frictional losses, of course. But hope springs eternal, and the scientifically illiterate and irresponsible news media is always ready to give credulous attention to yet another nutter who thinks he's really done it this time for sure!

There is one thing that these machines do produce in perpetuity: excuses for why they don't work. Sometimes they're really entertaining, but most of the time they're just really, really lame.

Perpetual motion crackpots think that because magnets can remain stuck to the refrigerator indefinitely, they somehow represent an infinite source of energy. They just don't understand that force and energy are two entirely different things. Force isn't energy, nor does it require it. Energy is force times distance, such as expanding gases driving a piston in a car engine, falling water driving a turbine in a hydroelectric plant, or Lance Armstrong's legs cranking his bicycle pedals. But a magnet stuck to the fridge is no more a source of energy than a piece of paper stuck there with glue, or a potted plant hanging from a hook in the ceiling. Any energy you get by letting a magnet get stuck to the fridge is energy you have to give right back when you pull it away.

Then where is the energy that is turning this wheel coming from? Or are you saying this is an outright hoax?

You can't make energy from nothing. It can turn the wheel yes, but you won't see him hooking up anything to transfer its energy to...because it can't. If you use x or more energy to turn the wheel like that, it will only make x or less energy. Therefore, defeating the purpose all together, if that makes sense.

eventually, the materials the machine is made of will disintegrate...if the machine is not perpetual, neither is its motion.

IMO, to make it 'more efficient' a device of this sort could use the 'frictionless bearings'.

Perhaps an array of magnets to allow more variance in speed and oscillations of the ball along circumference of the wheel.

Regardless of magnets conservative energy, it is energy nonetheless and tapping into it is the principle of electricity.

Whether it can turn a load or not is just your supposition.
There is already a load on the system in the form of the wheel. If there was a pulley attached that drew say 1% more power from the system than is already being drawn by the wheel are you saying it wouldn't turn it?

Another way to think of it is ask yourself what if the wheel was made out of lighter materials, like carbon fibers?
It would still work right? So where did the energy come from to turn a heavier wheel in the form of aluminum?

Don't get me wrong, you've stated very well why under conservation of energy laws as we know them it can't work. But unless it's a hoax it is working!

Just because an observed phenomenon defies your beliefs, doesn't mean it defies the laws of nature.

I don't think the skeptics here are shills. I just think they've been programmed by an educational system which punishes intelectual curiosity when it doesn't conform to established scientific priciples.

But if it weren't for the curiostity of a few enlightened and determined people, (such as Nikola Tesla who was told in no uncertain terms by his science teacher that an AC motor would never be invented because such a thing was impossible..)we wouldn't have gotten where we are today.

This may well be a hoax but it may not be. But it's simple enough for anyone to build and find out..

For those of you who just love to quote the 'laws' of physics, please check out the fine print in your physics books. At some point they will all inform you that these 'laws' are only applicable in closed systems.

May I suggest, for your pondering, that the universe is not a closed system. In other words you've been had.

Do a search on 'laws of physics' and poke around a bit.

Certainly there is the possibility of these machines in operation? What if a machine (not necessarily this one) "pushes" against a universal force that allows it a seemingly "free" energy. What if this "push" slows the Earth to a stop after a Trillion years. What if a Trillion of these devices were operating around the world and it brought the Earth's rotation to a still in one year?
