High Solar Flare Activity- But only 1 or 2 Small Sunspots Earthside
We have had 17 C Flares and 5 M Flares in 48 Hours, but there are no large sunspots facing Earth.

We are also having a possibly large flare right now.

Spaceweather says it comes from a large spot that is rotating towards Earth in the next few days.

This can't be good.

there are plenty of magnetic filaments, sunspots are not the only cause

You are right, but not that many flares can come from filaments.

[link to www.solarham.net] says that the flares are from a sunspot region that is just about to rotate around to our side.

Sunspot 1548. It should be a doozy.

why? the sunspot rotating into view are tiny and the larger ones will take a bit longer and we don't know what they will due, it the are old ones coming around again, they are rarely anything to wow about anyway.

there is a little over worry here from all the 2012 hype and the sun is not that active during this solar period at all.

If we are catching M Flare level X rays from a sunspot that is not even on our side, then how big are those flares? Solarham says it is coming in the next few days.

That is why it is concerning.

Pretty dense chart for no sunspots facing Earth.
