Now for a personal observation.

I have been fortunate enough to travel to northern California these past 3 or 4 years. I was at pier 39 when the Japan tsunami came into the Bay.

I like to cross the Golden Gate Bridge and take a left to Stenson Beach, along the Pacific Coast Highway.

The last time I was there was about 4 months ago. There is new geological events taking place there now. The road is slipping into the ocean. The blacktop is cracked and has fallen. If someone goes there and verifies this, you'll see what I mean. It's right in front of this guy's ranch halfway to the beach.

Personal Event 2.
My wife and I were driving through Truckee California. We drove out through Donner National Forest to head to San Francisco. At crest, before the steep decline to the Bay, there was a rancid aroma of methane that smelled like rotten eggs. We must have driven through a pocket of it..up by the lake.

Why significant? By the time we checked into our hotel in San Francisco, news reports came in that there had been a 5. something earthquake in the exact place where I had smelled the methane baby diaper smell around Truckee.
