George B (OP) Extinct But Not Forgotten! User ID: 19998253 United States 08/20/2012 12:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Unlimited supply of Duct Tape for the win! Quoting: Razgriz In unlimited amounts you could make anything out of it. Clothes, bags, wallets, sleeping bags, houses! If you get desperate you could make boats, water containers, and yes even...wait for it...trash bags! Then there are the possibilities for grooming and...ahem...information gathering techniques. Need to wax your legs? We've got tape for that! Need to keep someone really quiet? We've got tape for that too! Need to set the annoying significant other out to be bait for whoever is pursuing you, just wait until they go to sleep and then wrap them up. You can even put a little bow on their head made from duct tape. And forget post-it notes. Just slap a little duct tape on whatever you want and write on there with some charcoal from your fire! Give me duct tape, and I'll give you a civilization. Maybe I've been watching too much Red Green.... Duct Tape Rules !!!! Martin Luther King . . . Being that far north your water would be cleaner however, I live in the south so I get a lot of nasty run off from all the people up north. Never EVER risk your water especially when a hospital isn't a option. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 20884138 United States 08/20/2012 02:08 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've gone camping up north in -40 and studied enough survival info to know what to do if I emerged alive from a nuclear apocalypse. 1) Shelter - since I survived, I assume I have already found shelter underground. I may need to gather materials to feather my nest for warmth. 2) Water - radiation poisoning of my body, air, food and water would concern me more than bacteria. I would go to a river with a clay bed to detox myself and water--radiation is water soluble. Water can be filtered through rocks, sand, & charcoal. 3) Food - I know how to build snares and string creeks to catch fish. I would need to find fabric and/or wire to create the snares. I would dig underground for worms/bugs to eat and gather whatever edible plant life I could. 4) Fire - I know many ways to make fire which I would use to boil water, cook food and keep warm. 5) Weapons - bow & arrows would be my choice for my survival in the short term; inevitably, I would need to find a group of people for long-term survival. I've done a lot of thinking about this even though I suspect I will likely be one the first ones they round up and execute before the war. I wanted to be prepared for all contingencies. Though all of the items on that list have degrees of usefulness, I realized if a band of survivors ever encountered me, they would likely take whatever I had and kill me unless I could offer something they couldn't take--my intelligence and survival skills. I also know First Aid & CPR. If I had to take one item on that list, it would be the super-glue so that after I made a comfortable nest for myself and had a full belly, I could snort some glue and get high enough to forget that I am living in hell. |
