solar portable battery pack question
i have a 5000mah 5v 1 amp input battery pack that takes an AC cord from the wall outlet to a circular DC input 5v cord.

my question is i have a solar panel that will charge things with a cigarrette lighter (up to 15.4 volts and 1.2 amps power so plenty for this...

how do i find a cigarette lighter cord thats say male on one end to 5v dc 1 amp circular cord

ive tried some search terms but i cant find anything

Re: solar portable battery pack question
what you're looking for is the battery charger with the positive and negative clamps for going on a 12v battery.

usually the outside of the the male end of the charger is negative and the post in the middle is positive.

the charger is just a cord for the power to run through, they'll take most voltage up to a point without damage.

hope this helps.

Re: solar portable battery pack question
oh wait a minute, i miss read your post, my bad.

you need a power inverter. these are available all over.
get one that will soak the amperage from it and you should be ok. snag a cheap multimeter from Harbor Freight or ChinaMart and check what you're panel puts out.

the inverter will take the power from the panel and convert it from DC to AC, then the wall plug (it's kinda like a box right?) will do the step down to 5v.

i dont think an inverter is an option for me. my solar panel is a foldable one. portable...

im 20watts 15.4 volts 1.2 amps out

minimum inverter wattage ive seen is 30 and 2 amps

i tried finding a small PORTABLE battery, like a battery pack for a laptop or something like that, where i could trickle it from my solar panel then get an inverter from battery pack.

but i cant find any

and i thought i was good at searching for things....

Re: solar portable battery pack question
If it was me, I would get a second identical battery pack and charge them in series.

Other than that you can build a little voltage regulator board with an LM-7805 reglator chip. Dead simple, solar panel in, 5 volts out and ground are the only 3 connections.
