10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?

11 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.

12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.

13 Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

John might have been the incarnation of Elijah.

It's talking about the POSITION of said person.

John would take the POSITION that Elijah once held.

Just like Christ would take the POSITION of David once he comes back and rule as KING (as David did).

There's no such thing as reincarnation btw(see Hebrews 9:27)

Furthermore OP, instead of making ridiculous claims like that, why not try to seek the proper understanding? Smh.

I would be careful who I call a liar. You are not one of His so you can not understand truth. You will get our day in court with Him.

Why mock god or His son?

By the way why is it so easy fo r people like you to use Jesus name in foul forms but not believe Him to be the Son of God?

The jewish people were waiting for the return of Elijah or rather one like elijah, believing a great prophet had to come before the Messiah could come. This verse explains why they believed this:

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
Malachi 4:5

With much reading and study you find Jesus declaring that John is the one who was sent before Him, the Prophet they expected. Not Elijah but one like Elijah. Some had come to expect Elijah reappearing, thus the confusion in some of their understanding.

It is as the Poster here said, the Position of said person.

Jesus also called King Herod a fox.

You need to broaden your language and comprehension skills. Not all things are meant to be taken with stoical literalism.

Or are you just another of em Jesus haters...

Re: why did jesus lie and say john the baptisit was elijah ?
When you understand that the name Elijah is more of a "title" than a name things make more sense. It is the "spirit of Elijah". And Elijah means "God the LORD".

This brings up a very "thorny" issue for whoever this MAN is. Elijah was a man and not God. He was a prophet. But the translation means "God the LORD"? How do you reconcile this? This is what the "prophet" that is sent must work out, and pray for answers about. And it is obvious that OTHERS are going to be totally confused as well. They are expecting the "Messiah".

Well, the final "Elijah" will be telling you that Jesus is LORD and your Messiah...See the predicament?

lol, in biblical times, the widows and orphans had no chance of survival. the widows and orphans were the ones that were basically homeless and had nobody to care for them, shelter them, feed them, etc.

for modern times, that translates to ANY person who is unable to care for themselves.

Jesus did not lie when he said John the Baptist was Elijah.
He simply meant that Elijah (or Elisha) embodies the spirit of John.

This video reveals the truth from the foundations of the Earth,
and was designed to restore all things.

This was meant for all those familiar
with the writings of John the Baptist.

"But they knew him not" ... because he was a she.

"I will also give him a white stone
with a new name written on it
known only to him who receives it"

We did not lie, for John the Baptist was Elijah. Some spirits can reincarnate but most can not for most are bound to underworld John was a unique Spirit he was the same Spirit whom occupied the body of Elijah.

Only a few have capability to reincarnate the general population gets one life then falls into underworlds.

I tell you now Elijah walks the earth once more but ye shall not know him until end, for he shall be one of my two witnesses but in new name and body yet again.

Notice that Jesus didn't deny, instead reaffirmed that "Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things" BEFORE stating that controversial "Elias is come already and they knew him not...".

Both cannot be true at the same time, using a literal interpretation. If you say that John the Bapttist was Elias reincarnated, then why did Jesus Christ reaffirm that "Elias shall come first (future)" is true?

The other keypoint to understand all of this is: did John the Baptist restore all things? Of course the answer is no, the situation of the Jewish people is of blindness as of today as it was in that time, they still don't believe Jesus Christ is their Messiah.

In fact, not even Jesus Christ himself (!!!) could restore His people to Him as of now. Instead Jesus Christ got the same reception as John the Baptist did, and worse.

So Jesus Christ is talking at first that Elias (this one Elias really) will in fact come later in the future to really restore all things, and in the second mention of Elias "Elias came and they knew him not but have done unto him whatever they wished" i think it means something like if Jesus Christ were telling "For them (the religious leaders who persecuted and killed John the Baptist) it's as if Elias had already come and they completely missed his coming, because if they were unable to recognize John the Baptist, and unable to recognize the cruelty of their hearts after all what they did to him, which expose their hearts, how will they recognize the real Eliah when he is come? How will they recognize me (Jesus Christ)?"

Notice that Jesus confirm this again by saying "Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them". He knew that John the Baptist wouldn't restore all things, and that His first coming wouldn't also restore all things, and that Elias would have to be sent to restore all things in the future, before His second coming.

And we can also conclude that in this passage Jesus Christ is also telling about His second coming, he acknowledges the Messiah is to come after Elias (= the true (and only) prophet Elias of the old testament, that is to be sent again in the future), and that Elias will have to restore all things before the Messiah can come, so His people will believe Him this time.

Re: why did jesus lie and say john the baptisit was elijah ?
A simple question: When someone asks you to do one thing again (supposing you did it before), how many times do you have to do it?

Of course it's only one time. Not twice, three times, ten times much less one hundred or one thousand times, or an indefinite number of times.

So, when Jesus Christ is telling "you need to be born again", how many more times does one need to be born?

You know the answer!
