Why do people off themselves by jumping off bridges? | |

I can't imagine a more painful way to die than drowning, sucking water into your lungs must hurt. It seems like shooting yourself in the head would be the quickest and most painless way to do it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1591486 I dont think it's all about the drowning. A lot of people jump off of bridges that dont have any water underneath, meaning it's a way more painful, but also much a shorter death. I don't know why they do it. It seems very painful to me, but also very very dramatic. A sort of "I am ending my life by jumping off a bridge" a "last jump" sort of free-fall. I dont know. It's also public, so people witness it sometimes, making it all the more dramatic. |

The question is why do people off themselves? The only reason I can see that makes any sense, is to avoid the lingering pain of an incurable disease, advance cancer etc. Meridian Sun #50 F&AM Past Master McMinn Chapter #74 Royal Arch Masons Athens Council #118 Cryptic Masons Athens Commandery #34 Knights Templar |

Thats the risk you take, and why most people DONT. lol.. pills, jumping/falling, shotgun to head.. You could fail at any of them.. Aside from jumping into a volcano or being at ground zero of a nuke. Just drink until you pass out to your favorite CD. I met a woman one time in a retirement home. She had half a skull...a huge indentation on the side of her head and it looked very bizarre. My Mother told me she tried to commit suicide with a gun and it didn't work. |

I remembered the jumping, hitting the water, my legs and arms were broken and disjointed as I was falling through the water, and then I blacked out. I then found myself out in the Void with a monks robe type of garb on. My head was down, my face hidden in the hood, and I was alone and contemplating what I had done. Oh, lol, but your question was why, not what happens: I was young and in love with someone my father didn't approve of...so I jumped off a bridge. Quite the daft reason, however it's one that brought me such a large understanding on down the road. You never change things by fighting the existing reality. Remember reading something of that nature a couple years back. So even thats not a certainty. |

Fits in with what I believe about the afterlife resulting from suicides. When you arrive on the other side there is a prolonged periond of self-reflection that lasts longer than time can describe. You're stuck in a void until you come to realize exactly what you threw away by taking your own life. |

You're probably unconscious, or dead, from the impact alone. |
