I saw a contrail today - 29-08-2012 - that took 22 seconds to disappear, and I suppose it could take a little longer sometimes.

So 5-30 seconds is a reasonable estimate.

I. That is not my position . . . however, persistent contrails are increasing in frequency because of the following factors
1) more and more long haul air traffic
2) higher flying commercial and military aircraft
3) more and more high efficiency engines

II. The knowledge the above would lead to more persistent trails and cirrus cloud banks has been known for decades . . . no attempts at mitigation has occurred

III. Potential for climatic alteration is possible . . . so then are persistent contrails not doing the same thing chemtrails are accused of doing??????
