President Barack Obama made a surprise appearance at the White House press briefing today, after growing criticism that he had been avoiding reporters. He used the occasion to criticize the GOP's candidate for U.S. Senate in Missouri, to borrow a line from Harry Reid about Mitt Romney's father, and to claim that presidents' lives should be an "open book," among other statements of varied interest.
