Whether or not the Bible is correct in it's assesments or not, the book was not written by idiots. religion is just a way to cope with this short shitty life of injustice and misery,so people create things like gods and afterlifes in the hope that somehow their will be justice and happiness in some other world, its just illusion,but it keeps people from going completly insain, so its necessary.

It's a comfort read. People would go nuts if they knew that when they die they're dead. Humans are eternal children and need a father figure to fix their problems, tell them what to do and what not to do, punish them when naughty and provide them with a warm safe place when the bell tolls.
I look around me and see fragile minds that would sooner believe a lie and that mommy and daddy are in heaven waiting for them, than accept life for what it is (fucking amazing!) and get on with it :-)

The New Testament, the earliest editions were written for the Flavians and Pisos by Apollonius, Damas and Lucius who could write in Greek, Roman, Samaritan... Hardly sheep herders.
