KoFFee_ (OP) User ID: 1373078 United States 08/22/2012 10:52 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Bishop's storehouse The concept of the bishop's storehouse is based on a revelation received by church founder Joseph Smith, Jr. on February 9, 1831, whereby he was instructed to keep goods "in my [the Lord's] storehouse, to administer to the poor and the needy". Most of the goods in the storehouse are purchased with fast offering funds or produced on church-owned agricultural property. The storehouses are staffed by volunteers or church service missionaries. Persons in need, whether members of the church or not, can access the storehouse by approaching a bishop or local Relief Society president. Quoting: Margaret Smith One of the comments below the article said this: "The article doesn't mention that EVERY Mormon household is supposed to have TWO YEARS OF FOOD STORAGE for emergencies. This also includes 55 gallon drums of water, toilet paper, weapons to protect the food storage, etc. Thus, only in Utah will you see ads for "complete" systems containing enough dried food to feed a family for that period. It's big business here." Without even asking for help, the church immediately provided groceries. My first ever frozen orange juice concentrate! It all came from the local warehouse. This only lasted a short time, as my parents had an income, even if not a home. Congregation members jumped in to donate used furnishings, appliances, clothing, etc. to make up for our loss. A wild animal will protect its nest, young, territory as should we all. Jesus was NOT a hippy emo freak as the modern church portrays him. We must remember the bible today and the interpretations thereof are corrupted by the hands of man who revised it all to fulfill a certain politico-socio agenda. Eyes open. Jesus said this himself apparently. “From this hour, whoever has a money bag should take it and thus also a wallet, and whoever lacks a sword, let him sell his tunic and buy a sword for himself.
