I was raised in the Mormon Church. In 1963 our family of 8 lost our home when it burned to the ground. My parents, while hard working, had barely made do up to that point.
Without even asking for help, the church immediately provided groceries. My first ever frozen orange juice concentrate! It all came from the local warehouse. This only lasted a short time, as my parents had an income, even if not a home. Congregation members jumped in to donate used furnishings, appliances, clothing, etc. to make up for our loss.
Our family, though the love and devotion of our congregation, hardly skipped a bit.
While I have not been actively involved in the LDS church for 20 years, I am grateful for q Mormon background, its support in my youth, and its teachings of preparedness.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 744081 "...and by their fruits ye shall know them...." I know ... "they're not Christians...." So far as I've found, they follow in the footsteps of Christ more than any of the Christian Church's I've looked at. Just sayin... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 744081 A poster said that Mormons are to have an arsenal of guns to protect their food. Doesn't sound Christian to me. Seems that Jesus would share the food. Don't remember Jesus walking around with guns or his disciples for that matter. Live by the sword, die by the sword is what Jesus said. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1550123 While I am no longer an actively involved Mormon, my children are, as well as most of my relatives. Never heard in all my life about Mormon's being encouraged in any way to be armed. Never heard anything to discourage it either. Most Mormons will want to ensure their children and grandchildren are fed before marauding gangs. Suit yourself.
