Quoting: Anonymous Coward 17362492 It's one thing to stage a do-it-yourself renovation on a table, mirror or painting found deep in the weeds of a yard sale. It's quite another to attempt a repair job on a one-of-a-kind 19th century fresco by the Spanish painter Elias Garcia Martinez with a few broad brushstrokes. (Centro de Estudios Borjanos) Such was the lesson learned by an elderly member of the Santuario de Misericodia church in Borja, in northeastern Spain. Her handiwork, or lack thereof, was discovered after the painter's granddaughter donated the work, "Ecce Homo," to the archive of religious paintings housed at the Centro de Estudios Borjano, also in Borja. [link to news.yahoo.com] Sounds like she wasn't authorized to do that, in the first place. She might be senile, or something. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22242881 It may very well become a tourist attraction and possibly even an inadvertent piece of cultural art because of the story behind it. Or, if they want to restore it, can't they just sand it down a bit? A fresco has depth, the color is in the plaster. I'd be interested in a knowledgeable reaction to my "crazy" idea. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1145382 LOL, You call that fixing it!? - She had to be crazy or AT LEAST half way through the "restoration" she would of stopped and thought to herself - 'this isn't going so well... maybe I should quit?' |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 11698818 Canada 08/23/2012 10:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | frescoes are made by adding pigment to the plaster as it is wet. so the colour becomes chemically part of the wall.....not added on afterwards. so i think she must have just painted over top of the fresco. it should really be too hard to remove her painting. but to do it, without damaging the old fresco underneath would be the tricky consideration. |
