Quoting: Super Bowl Dave These benefits are going to run out for EVERYONE on Jan. 1, 2013 (they're ALREADY running out for people who are losing their jobs now -- I think after June 2012 you're not able to get them). They're running out for me, too (luckily I qualify until the end of the year). Only a small amount of people *may* get them until June 1st, 2013. After June 1st, 2013, it's definitely over. All UI claims will get 25 weeks and that's it (maybe some state extensions, but those are so short they're almost not worth mentioning, and require a lot more paperwork and for you to jump through hoops to qualify). What you need to appreciate is that from 2008 and onward, most people on UI enjoyed up to 99 weeks of weekly checks. It was reduced this year to 72 weeks. Now it virtually expires completely Jan 1, 2013. The gravy train is over. Everyone is going to get 25 weeks and that's it! Congress isn't doing shit about this and probably won't. This changes things dramatically. For three to four years, millions of people relied on these checks. They relied on what was essentially TWO YEARS of unemployment benefits while they looked for work. Without that safety net, we would have seen serious social decay. Now we will see it. 2013 could be a mess of a year. I'd also like to note that while everyone is saying it is somehow easier to get on food stamps -- I beg to differ. I've tried. If you're in school, nothing for me. If you make *any* money, virtually nothing for you. Your best bet is either to join the military if you're under 35 (or national guard if you're under 40) or get pregnant or knock a girl up. Or get on SSDI, which will require a lot of doctors visits and paperwork -- and luck. Oh, you could find a job. Good luck with that. My best friend was in his 4th year at Minnesota collecting food stamps... He has his degree and is working a job now in Colorado... Still collecting food stamps... Anyways, fuck unemployment checks... I worked a small time construction business for 5 years in WI taking off 5 months due to winter without being allowed to collect unemployment. I made about 25k each year... I don't feel sorry for people who will only get 5 months of unemployment... There could be serious social decay, but that's because our country is filled with a bunch of pathetic citizens. I'd cut unemployment down to two months or less if I had my say. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23321974 ![]() I'm not against the social safety net. In that respect, I don't care if Obama is re-elected, as he's more likely to give the farm away than the GOP. I agree with the premise of the GOP, smaller govt, etc, but in action and in spirit, they will screw us five ways to Sunday. The whole thing is rigged. We should fleece the government for all it's got before it's too late and the whole thing crashes. That's my opinion. Take it all, take all you can. Get whatever cheese you can before they give it to China, devalue the dollar, it's all funny money. |

I have never been unemployed longer than 30 days (unless by choice). The jobs are out there, sometimes you have to take less pay, but the jobs are there. I moved to another state and had 5 interviews and 3 job offers in 30 days. Edit: My hardcore republican Uncle sat on umeployement for 2 years and never, NOT ONCE looked for a job. All the while bashing social programs like un-employement, medicaid. Was a hypocrital train wreck in action. Last Edited by Revguard on 09/07/2012 11:38 AM |

Fucking hypocrites. |

The internet is full of these hypocrital mooches who viciously bash the poor and anybody who offers a defense of social spending. Just a little while back on GLP there was a libertarian saying he was perfectly justified in his foodstamps because he paid taxes. And of course, he was real smug in his philosophy and loved to bash government and entitlements, all that jazz. They piss me off twice over. From now on I'm just going to assume any repug posting on the internet is kicking back and collecting. |

The Democrats will just pull the heartstrings again, calling Republicans evil, and get another extension, then another, and another and another. Democrats are willing to pay for entire lives of lazy minorities and white trash in exchange for votes. These benefits will literally be paid out for entire generations of families who spend their days being belligerent against white middle class hard working people. They will continue to have their millions of offspring roam streets joining gangs, drinking bug juice and eating chips. There is no end. Democrats are literally trying to kill the middle class, and replace it with one giant nation of poverty. The tool they use? Just look at the convention. They parade minorities around as symbols of fairness, while they use them behind the scenes to create hate of white families who work for a living. |

I made 20.00 an hour. I am now looking at part time work as no one will hire you when you made 20 and they want to pay you 9>00. Hey, I am here to tell you they do not call you for an interview and I am also 62 and I am very sure that is also playing a big role in not being hired. Not everyone sits on their ass waiting for a hand out. My husband also lost his job and we cannot find full time work. We are willing to work and know we will have to work for alot less. |

My husband, and 2 of our neighbors, all laid off at the same time, but from differant companies, were supposed to get benefits until the end of the year. My husband and neighbors all got their unemployment cut off the end of June. |

You could also just buy a truck and start doing general labor until something else comes along. Quoting: - 27605885 relocate where and leave my mortage, property everything I worked so hard for ya right anyone who says that there are jobs out there is full of it. I cannot support a family of five on 8 bucks an hour, we still loose everything and anyways im overqualified according to a multitude of employers I tried to get a job at. This is a lose lose situation here and is planned that way were all stupid for believing that this is an economy that will recover. look at the evidence its right in front of your eyes people stop telling those who have spent their lives making omething out of themselvs that there loosers. The only looser is the one who thinks he has an answer for us you have no idea what your talking about. |
