It is discouraging that intellectual beings would argue over beliefs, some being hateful and spiteful for no other reason than their belief differs from another's. Religious beliefs and even non-religious beliefs are founded in faith not facts, no one with any more solid evidence than the other.

Beliefs are formed by the individual, often influenced by larger groups of individuals and environments that hold similar beliefs. By their very nature, beliefs are personal and as such will vary. I would like to believe that God holds variety and diversity in high regard. It is evident everywhere you look, in races of people, in the colors of flowers, in art and literature, in a snowflake and in the stars above. There are no two things exactly alike and beliefs are no different. If your beliefs serve to better yourself and benefit your neighbor, then your beliefs are worthy.

In the grand scheme of things this is all that really matters. The hatred spawned because you believe something different than I can only be a disappointment to an almighty creator, one that values diversity and variety. If your beliefs bring harmony to your soul and happiness to your heart allowing you to share your love and kindness, then they serve you well. We do not all have to share a common belief, but we should share a common set of values and morals. How we reach this common ground is irrelevant, what is important is that we strive to better ourselves and our world. I do not believe any religion has any ill intent at it's core. There are cruel and hateful people in every religion and just as many in those without. Greed, power and control sought by the few should not define a whole. We have laws that define common morals, it would be a sad world if we had laws that defined common beliefs.

Probably it's not effective as a means of execution, it would be simpler to use bullets or maybe drones with lasers or satellites with lasers, who knows... Much simpler.

But it's probably one of the most if not the most effective in scaring people, that's why they have chosen this way, it will completely disencourage people to resist, unless they know they'll be with God even if they get killed for their faith.
