Price of food today at the Fareway grocery store.........

What state are those prices?

I am in sticker shock!

Did you get a raise last week to compensate the price of food going up?
Because I sure didn't.....

That's cheap: try buying all organic.

It is the same here at Safeway where I shop. Seems like everything went up in the last few weeks. Even baking soda went up 6 cents. I know 6 cents isnt much but when its at least 6 cents more on everything it adds up fast. Eggs are 1.99 a dozen here too and ground beef is anywhere from 2.99 for only 73% lean to 5.99 for 93% lean.

Well we do buy expensive fruits and veggies...but i was posting the basic eggs..beef..etc.

My point is this...
Spent $200 at the grocery store and barely come home with anything.
How do people do it?
I know what I make...and there are alot of people who make alot less.
Are these people now getting priced out of food?
Will they all have to go to the government for food stamps?
Is this what the government wants?

Gotcha. There's another thread on P. 1 regarding Goldman Sacks and their price manipulation, not to mention, all the crop failures/droughts, GMO's, etc. The future of our food supply (and costs going forward) should be a concern to everyone.

it's an illusion. It looks as if prices are going up, what's really going on is the Dollar is losing it's purchasing power. It'll be the equivalent of the peso pretty soon.

I hope its not what they want...its what they might get if the prices keep going up like they are. I use coupons on whatever I possibly can and might even go to 2 different stores to get the better deal. Otherwise, we mostly eat what's on sale that week. We wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise with the prices.

You know..I agree with you. I feel like the last couple of weeks things have really started going up. If people are not stocked up on the basics..they better hurry..because I'm wondering how high they're gonna go

Do you guys have Aldi? Other discounters are indeed more expensive.

Watermelon,Fried Chicken and Grape Kool-Aid is still kinda cheap for some strange reason...

Been at those prices for months, if not at least a year. Of course you can find deals, buy 27% fat burger, generic cheap coffee to offset them, but you catch my drift. Spend smart and stock up when you can.

potato chips were $4/bag
Coffee $9-$10 for a large container

Just outrageous.....I could go on...but you get the picture

I think civil war is possible. Something I have been noticing a lot these last few months when I'm at the grocery store is that people not buying a lot of food. When I shop I buy a week or 2 weeks worth of groceries but it seems like there are only 2-3 people in the store at the same time who are doing that. Seems everyone else is only buying enough for 1 or 2 meals. If its a money issue (vs. laziness issue) and people can only afford a few meals at a time I really believe civil war could happen sooner rather than later. Kinda scary when you think about it!

I've always paid 3-4 dollars for a dozen organic/free-ranged eggs. (but I don't buy it anymore)

beef 5.99/lb grass fed organic (but I don't buy it anymore)

4 dollars for Kettle brand party size gluten-free non-gmo chips

and always have paid 8-10 dollars for quality coffee (but I don't buy it anymore)

Nothing new here.

It's like a delicious red apple just hanging there. Just reach out and grab it and it's yours. Free. Easy enough.

It's a trap too though. Once you're on it, you become dependent on it, you add it to the budget, and I imagine it would be very hard to adapt once you lose it.

I hear you, it's nothing, Americans are always buying CHEAP GMO crap, that's not even food. Then they complain that real food costs money when you're not producing it yourself.

It's all relative to your area. This was high for Iowa. A definite increase.

The cheap stuff is still the stuff that is bad for you... ten for a dollar hamburger helper, top ramen, 25 cents a bit... cheap ass nutritionless bread... 89 cents.. I could go on... to eat well these days one has to make a lot of money... In fact, I think this is why so many americans are fat.... can only afford cheap ass carbs... spaghetti, ramen, mac and cheese.. hamburger helper, I mean really... veggies are expensive ... and so is even chicken.. if you have kids, one 6 dollar chicken isn't going to go far... people are eating too many carbs because they are cheapest.. honestly... Veggies are great, but most don't fill the belly... at least not for long... protein has just gone thru the roof lately... I have been eating a lot of tuna lately since it is cheap... 68 cents a pop.. I add it to my ramen and mac and cheese... Hard to eat really well these days unless you make a lot of money.... me, I live on $700 a month and some food stamps... disabled.. it's hard.

not saying that price isn't going up. but...

Um those prices are about the norm for me
