Tropical Storm Isaac - think its not a threat just because it's not a hurricane?

the rain is going to suck with this storm that is for sure, but the elites didn't get their way with this one. Or they decided last minute to hit the kill switch on it with HAARP.

I will admit it's been pretty hyped up on TV, and for what? Not much has happened with it as far as strengthening. Time will tell for sure.....but yeah, the rain can cause major problems. I just don't like seeing people not prepare because the wind isn't strong. Still be careful!

We did not get it as bad at all, but still some flooding

tropical storm is nothing to worry about,less than an average afternoon thunderstorm,wake me up when its cat 3.

You're right - it won't cause major, major damage or doom, but if the storm has a lot of rain it WILL cause some damage, and in some cases it can get pretty bad, that's all I'm saying. Doesn't hurt to be careful anyway, right?

Florida can handle it.

OP is correct. Cities like Houston, TX can't take extended periods of rain without major flooding. Also the earthen dam in West Houston requires some major work, if it breaks before these repairs are made, a major flood event it could almost wipe out Houston.

It depends on how strong it gets, how big it gets, how fast it's moving, etc. Oh yeah, the timing as well.

Looking at the tracking map, it appears that it would be only a tropical storm when it passes by Tampa Bay. It has to cross those islands which would keep it from getting stronger. It would be nothing more than strong thunderstorms. It may or may not cause a lot of flooding if it moves fast enough.

*Note* - I went through hurricanes and tropical storms in Houston... That Tropical Storm Allison sure did a lot of damage to Houston... Massive flooding because Allison decided to backtrack and rain more in Houston catching everybody off guard...

Isaac-the name given to Abraham's only real blood son, It means laughter or to make laugh. Abraham and Sarah chose this name because the were old parents and everyone who heard they had a son in their old age would laugh and indeed it did make many chuckle after his birth. I think Abraham and Sarah had a good sense of humor.

I don't think it will even hit Florida, personally, that's my opinion.

The second biggest threat in a hurricane is the rain. Tropical storms have been known to be just as vicious as hurricanes, sometimes worse! Certainly a heavy rainmaker tropical storm in Haiti would be bad.

I haven't even followed the path of this storm, which being a Floridian I usually do.

The Republicans are down right out of their mind to have the convention in Tampa! I've said that ever since I heard the news it was going to be there. What do they want? Mitt Romney to not even win?

It's going to be interesting what this storm does once it gets out over the water again. It will strenghen, this time of year no storm out in the Gulf ever weakens over water. The storm will have to be pretty far out in the Gulf NOT to affect the Republician National Convention at all. The right front quadrant of the storm will be closest to Tampa, that's THE most dangerous part of the storm. That right front side of a hurricane can reach out for MILES.

I have to watch my tropical updates to really say anymore on this storm. But Republicans you have basically really messed things up with this one!

Trop. Debbie was worse for my area than Isaac will be.
No one knew about it because the repub's weren't around, and Wolf Blitzer didn't get to say "I'm really worried".

I evac'ed twice in 2004.. I'm not even thinking about plywood on this one... This will miss SW Fl., PanHandle, even NewAlins..

Texas.. I'd be on my toes.. Gulf temp 88.. no rain lately to cool Gulf waters... Cat 2 prob, but not in Tampa!

But that won't keep me from stocking canned goods, and filling my tub with fluids (beer on ice in the tub) Hurri-tradition....

Actually that's a good point. Part of the reason people her in VT got it so bad is because we don't know how to deal with tropical weather, it's just not expected!

And yes a lot of factors come into play: how fast it moves being one of them, especially in terms of how much rain an area gets. A slower moving storm will cause more flooding obviously.

I just want people to stay aware, that's all!

Storm is getting closer. I have a boat in Key Largo, I'm going to call the marina tomorrow to see what they might do with it. This thing is getting closer!
