MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - Federal law requires the Mississippi river channel be at least nine feet deep. Because of the extremely low river levels, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers must use special equipment to make that happen.

To make the river deeper, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers use a dredge that has three GE diesel electric 16-cylinder engines.

"We can move around 5,000 cubic yards an hour," said Captain Frank Segree.

Captain Segree's crew consists of 47 people.

Jimmy Wood controls the dredge from his perch in the wheelhouse.

"I'm running what you might call a big vacuum cleaner," said Woods.

The machine he is talking about is under the water, sucking up sand and mud from the river bed. It sends it through a pipeline and spits it out the far end. The intended goal is to carve and maintain a 300 foot wide channel at least nine feet deep.

"Last year, of course, it was almost going over the levee backing up in town. But now look around here and it's nothing but rock and sand," said Adrian Pirani, who is tasked with keeping the dredge from colliding with other boats that come through the channel. "We gotta stop everything and get out of the way. But of course, we're here for them. We can't stop them. You know, we gotta work around their schedule."

"We're not here to impede navigation we're here to keep it open," agreed Captain Segree. "This is a main artery to our commerce and if we lose the river it's just like shutting down I-10."

The Captain expects the dredge to be on the Mississippi River near Memphis for another few days.

After it is done working in this area, it will head to another low section of the river

When the pebbles skip across the water, only but one will sink. Three smooth skip over the body, while the rough and jagged trip over and join. CHRIStmas delivers fulfilment of the list. Who is naughty to be left out? SANDuskY has a POINT. Adam holds the fire which was sparked by CHRIStmas EVE. Watch the fire roast the LAMB as the LAMB is SANDY and POINTs towards CHRISTMAS EVE. I pray you understand the cryptic importance of this message. Some of us do care. Stay safe.

to add to my post above, the mississippi was dug deeper this past august 2012. Article describes miss river as described as rock and sand! so entire channel is SANDY! SANDuskY <-- took me a while to figure this out but drove me crazy all darn day!

info from www.enenews.com before the end of December -
Happy New Year!

[link to enenews.com]

[link to enenews.com]

These are the last 2 news releases on that site for the sinkhole. Nothing since. In fact, there are new vids on the BP site because it is suspected that there is continued leakage from the supposedly capped blowout (surprised??)
And there is info about the radiation from Fukushima. But nothing since 12/28 about Assumption Parish.

But we all here know, it's not over. Check out the vid with the fly-over comparisons between December and last August. Pretty scary.

Yeah, no matter what, we have to keep this thread alive!!!

That happened to several of the Dawgs as well. There is some info they had that they couldn't share, due to certain keywords, apparently GLP had server issues every time they posted certain specifics. Same thing with emails.

Chaisson said that as recently as 1920, the cemetery was several feet above sea level, surrounded by orange groves, cotton fields and cattle farms. Much of the ground has subsided to barely sea level, and during Isaac, about seven feet of land washed away in the tidal surge, he said.

"We did not bury people in marshes," Curole said. "We buried them on high ground. This was high ground, and now it's subsided to the point of being wetlands and open water."

Sounds like what is going to happen to most of the state if you ask me.

Observations indicate that the current growth event is centered on the east side of the sinkhole – possibly related to shifting of salt and material within the cavern collapse zone. After a period of heightened activity, the number and strength of sharp seismic events dropped markedly following the release of debris and hydrocarbons from the sinkhole – though impacts at the surface on the eastern side of the sinkhole will continue to be monitored closely.

does event follow the folklore of rougarou? In the Cajun legends, the creature is said to prowl the swamps around Acadiana and Greater New Orleans, and possibly the fields or forests of the regions. The rougarou most often is described as a creature with a human body and the head of a wolf or dog, similar to the werewolf legend. below is the acadiana parishes:

Either way, I know the news isn't good over there. Maybe you'll get more clues.

You did good, last time a warning was posted 6 million pounds of dynamite was discovered, being it was intentional... I'm wondering if it was moved to used (planned, advertise) to let others see plans were in fact moving forward. Never heard anything else concerning explosives.
