I couldn't agree more with both of you. Ever since it began that feeling inside me of extreme sadness every time I think of it.

When I wrote that... dog barks, wind blows, etc. I did not put those numbers in my sentence. The numbers showed up when I posted it. Weird.

Guys, I found another weird post. I don't know if any of this is connected, but notice the opening sentence of the AC's post. I hope I'm not muddying the waters here. If I am, please say so. I don't know how to link across threads, so here's the link to the page. It's at the bottom.

This?

Retired-
Weeks Island - Iberia Parish, Louisiana (Decommissioned 1999) Capacity of 72 million barrels (11,400,000 m3). This facility was a conventional room and pillar near-surface salt mine, formerly owned by Morton Salt. In 1993, a sinkhole formed on the site, allowing fresh water to intrude into the mine. Because of the mine's construction in salt deposits, fresh water would erode the ceiling, potentially causing the structure to fail. The mine was backfilled with salt-saturated brine. This process, which allowed for recovery of 98% of the petroleum stored in the facility, reduced the risk of further freshwater intrusion, and helped prevent the remaining oil from leaking into the aquifer that is located over the salt dome.

    William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)
       THE SECOND COMING

    Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

    Surely some revelation is at hand;
    Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
    The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
    When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
    Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
    A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
    A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
    Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
    Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.

    The darkness drops again but now I know
    That twenty centuries of stony sleep
    Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
    And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
    Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Thanks, littlemiracles. I've read that poem recently, as it's been posted on different threads. I didn't remember the lines, though.

The dawg post, I took the same way you did, about the war in the ME. It was the numbers posted later and the quick confirmation. It's almost like a message was passed that we weren't supposed to understand. hmm

Here's another thread from today - OP Dolamite who is a local near the sinkhole, took vids of Brazilian C130's circling low over the sinkhole. There were posts about 16 new relief wells being drilled??? I missed that...but if new wells are being drilled, might that not be what sets this whole thing off??

Hope it's legal and acceptable to post the link to that other thread...feel free to delete if I did something wrong.

Hey, granny! I don't see why it would be wrong. I wondered what all the Dolamite threads were about. I missed his thread. I just saw the protest ones.

I don't know if the new wells would set things off, but I'm not a geologist. I've been concerned about the thumpers, though, after reading EC's posts the other day. We had them around our house several years ago, when they were looking for oil. I thought our poor house was going to fall apart. They weren't even close to the house. We had to sign a release not to sue for damages done to the house. We opted out of it all, so they didn't get very close to our property. I can't imagine what it would have been like if was closer.
