there are only 2 Big Problems that i see in all of this:
#1 is all of the natural gas that is percolating out of the ground all around Assumption Parish.
#2 is that the "sinkhole" is strong evidence that the roof of the Texas Brine Cavern is collapsing, and if the Texas Brine Cavern collapses then that event may trigger the collapse of the entire 1 mile by 3 mile Napoleonville Salt Dome Complex.
and, that is all.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25958921 and, the possible collapse of the entire 1 mile by 3 mile Napoleonville Salt Dome would only mean the end of the Bayou Corne community. whereas the natural gas (methane) percolating out of the ground in Assumption Parish is a real threat that all of Assumption Parish could be made completely uninhabitable because of it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25958921 Yes, but the sink hole break is 5000 ft. down and doesn't it border the gulf? It seems the ocean would rush into this land area and flood it? I mean the salt dome breech....borders the Gulf of Mexico... Quoting: allisaTX well, Assumption Parish is 20 ft. above sea level and more than 25 miles away from any "sea level water". so, if the Napoleonville Salt Dome collapsed, it would only make a hole in the ground 1 mile by 3 miles, and all of the swampland around it would drain into the new "lake" and fill it up which would create a lot of new Real Estate! but no water from the Gulf would come rushing in. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25958921 ummm...incorrect the volumn of area for water opened up would cause water to flow into the bayou. for the record, the salt formation is 10,000 feet deep. have ya ever been to louisiana? the swamp rums ~150 miles and ends at the gulf 20 foot elevation is nill when the ground is so saturated as it is down there angle of repose would allow the matterial to slough to an incredably flat angle [ link to en.wikipedia.org] wet clay, and sand are 15 degrees so go to a point 10,000 feet down, and come back at a 15 degree angle back to the surface, much larger than the simpleton 1 x 3 mile answer learn some science dr
