Did you happen to take any video of the incident or of location, if so you should make a fake youtube account and post link here. |

Drove up back up on some fire trails or forest service-type dirt roads. First, you come to a river...more of a large stream. Then you start to ascend up into the heavily forested and very scenic hills. After a bit of driving, you get to point where you can see out (north, I believe) over a lowland area of forest toward a large mountain range FAR to the north (possibly the San Juans). I didn't see anything "Art Bell"-worthy, but it wasn't for lack of looking. After a couple hours, I drove back down. Can't emphasize enough how beautiful the scenery was. Apollo astronauts couldn't have passed through Van Allen's Belt. Van Allen wore suspenders. |

First, what are you trying to see? Are you looking for another boat on the water or are you looking for a rabbit in the woods? The larger the object the easier it is to see. Plus, are you trying to see details (what we call recognition range) or are you just trying to see if something is there? Maybe you will just see the movement, but won’t be able to determine 100% who or what it is. This is called “detection range”. A second variable is lighting conditions. The more ambient light you have (starlight, moonlight, and infrared light) the better and further you will be able to see. You can always see further on a night where the moon and stars are out, then if it is cloudy and overcast. We typically state that you can tell the difference between a male and a female or a dog and a deer at about 75 to 100 yards. However, if you were looking across an open field and there was a half moon out you could see a barn or a house 500 yards away. Remember, that the purpose of an NVD is to see in the dark not necessarily at a long distance like a binocular. |

At least in that kind of detail. When you discovered the area in daylight, would you still say it was about 2 miles? Probably about a mile and a half and a half away I saw some points of light, thought they were headlights. Goin to bed. Have a good one all. |

Not sure what the vision quality would be like though. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 18018740 Normally Night Vision Bino's have an Infrared illuminator that when pressed will greatly enhance your NV capability. However, when using this function, a human will glow. You wouldn't be able to discern the color or type of uniform someone is wearing. |
