Many folks that have posted on g l p can kiss my

We have worked hard since 2005 to get ready for the
next storm. Anything cat 2-3 Louisiana is ready. Yankees

YES, and be sure to thank GEORGE BUSH for that....

Democrats spent THREE DECADES looting the Local Levee Boards in Louisiana, for personal and Democrat gain. The New Orleans Levee District even had a private, Gulfstream III Luxury Jet the taxpayers were paying for, that Chocolate City Dems used for political trips.

The result was rich Democrat politicians, and substandard-built levee systems, that resulted in hundreds of deaths.

But you didn't see that in the Mainstream Media, or on MSNBC, did you? Just the drumbeat of "Bush's Fault!, Bush Hates Black People and Wants Them To Die!!", pimped by completely biased, republican-hating reporters.

So, remember to thank GEORGE BUSH for all the lives of BLACK PEOPLE saved by the new, and better levees in New Orleans.

Well said

it was white money robbers that screwed the
lower income low lands of new Orleans

yes we do have a new ready to go levee system and
new levee board

Ok, I'm sure someone's already posted this somewhere but, is it a coincidence that this hurricane is supposed to make landfall on 8/29/12 the same day as Hurricane Katrina on 8/29/2005?

Just checking:)

I can't believe after Katrina that anyone would still be living long the Gulf Coast. That is like returning to your home at the base of an active volcano. It's NUTS!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22157434

I would never live in New Orleans.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20586262

Why would anyone live in a city that is below sea level?
 Quoting: de38always

Think they'll actually man the pumps in New Orleans this time?? Or will they shut the pumps down, and allow sections of the city to flood, so it makes Bush look bad, like they did during Katrina?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 19228212

There is no end to the stupid that happened in kat

pumps built in flood zones

generators to drive pumps with no remote control

switch gear in flood zone

believe all controls changed

rebuilt to code levees

there are still areas with levees of concern

180 miles of levees trying to stop as much water

as possible - need 3 billion to move from 25 ft to 30 ft

I'm in Dothan, Alabama, which is included in the hurricane zone. It won't be a direct hit for us, so we don't need to evacuate. We'll still get a really great storm though. The truth is, I love storms. As long as noone gets hurt, I truly enjoy watching the rain, and the lightning. Besides, it makes great movie weather!

The one thing I'm wondering about is why New Orleans is not using the Super Dome as a refuge this time. The mayor announced that they wouldn't be using it just now on TV, and it really confused me.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22655071

New Orleans has been around for freaking ever man! I can't think of another US city with more history than New Orleans. I doubt people were checking sea levels when they settled on that land by the Mississippi way back when. Actually, they picked the highest spot, the French Quarter. It was just a great river port location and it grew and grew. New Orleans has been under three different flags during its history. Where it got fricked up was in the modern age when the decision was made to dredge the river and build the levees. That prevented the deposit of slit during spring floods to the surrounding land. As a result you have much less land protecting the city of NO from the encroaching gulf and water from storm surges.

From a historical perspective, New Orleans is my favorite.
