Food shortages could force world into vegetarianism, warn scientists

Leading water scientists have issued one of the sternest warnings yet about global food supplies, saying that the world's population may have to switch almost completely to a vegetarian diet over the next 40 years to avoid catastrophic shortages.

Humans derive about 20% of their protein from animal-based products now, but this may need to drop to just 5% to feed the extra 2 billion people expected to be alive by 2050, according to research by some of the world's leading water scientists.

"There will not be enough water available on current croplands to produce food for the expected 9 billion population in 2050 if we follow current trends and changes towards diets common in western nations," the report by Malik Falkenmark and colleagues at the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) said

raising a pound of 'cow' takes 25x the resources (eg: water) than it does to raise a pound of plant based protein.

people become more spiritual with a plant based diet, as they have more energy freed up from not having to digest the very complex animal flesh.

this is good for the animals too, obviously.

refined carbohydrates are destroying our health, not meats. I suppose we need to stop exercising too, since exercise wastes energy which causes us to need to eat more. We then consume more than other people and that's selfish.

What about seafood

Hebrews ate quail, beef, lamb and fish.. I didnt think that meat protein hinders spirituality any...One step at a time ok?

First is facing a dwindling meat supply and second is that more and more people are pissed with non kosher processing of factory farm animals. Its done in cruel settings and animals are abused.

It is expensive to raise a Cattle.
