I'm watching live updates from several sites, but the radar projection that the Weather Channel just put out, that thing went from a light green swirly to a gigantic purple red mass of doom. I would seriously get out of the area while the roads are semi-cleared. [link to bcove.me] *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* I can't force people to accept the truth, but I can expose them to it. |

(remember hurricane George i think it was... It was projected to make landfall on the border of Texas and Louisiana. but it stopped moving for 1.5 days and did a 90 degree turn to the right.) people that evacuated east ended up taking the brunt of the storm and dying. (a few anyway) My family has a history of not running from hurricanes. We did not evacuate for Katrina, (but the cost of living during power outages, generators etc.) Was a huge toll on all of us. Most of the family is thinking (first hurricane of the season, only cat 2, etc) but I on the other hand am thinking worst case scenario. Taking care of your safety is number one NOT GLP, so please quit looking at the projections and scoot! I said a few days ago it was not being told right, it would be 150 miles either side of the Slidel,La area, now look at it. Trust in your gut instinct, which is most likely telling you to get out but instead you come here hoping someone will tell you all will be ok. Well it is not going to be. P.S. take any pets with you do not leave them behind! |

I am in no flood zones, I am only worried about power outages and corexit sludge if anything. And the simple answer to your question is: YES [/b You need to pack your most important valuables and LEAVE. Period. If you dont drive, take amtrak or trailways and leave tonite. It's not worth experimenting. Worst case scenario, you'll have a good laugh driving or heading back home from the safe location that you are going to now. |

You don't want to be in a fema camp with a bunch of low IQ animals raping and killing each other. Buddy of mine lived through Katrina and its was uglier than the news agencies ever let on. |

momma coop User ID: 20442533 United States 08/27/2012 05:15 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Either way it is a risk. You have to weigh both sides. If you leave you risk looking silly and cowardly if nothing happens. You also risk not being allowed back in until tptb feel like letting you back. It is also expensive and time consuming to evacuate to a hotel. If you stay you risk your life, the lives of your family and the lives of the responders if you need to be rescued. Which would you rather deal with? Your family and friends making fun of you for evacuating for no reason or knowing one of your family members died or were seriously injured because you did not want to risk looking foolish. The power is yours. Take it back. In a world where you can choose to be anything, choose to be kind. |
Bowyn Aerrow User ID: 22229335 United States 08/27/2012 03:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Distance doesn't matter. You could live 100 yards from the shore line and not suffer any real issues IF the house sits on a hill that puts is above the tidal surge and the house is built to withstand hurricane force winds. Conversely, you can live 50 miles away near/along some water way and a hurricane could push enough water upstream to flood the house out, or the house could be under-constructed and fall down in a light breeze. Distance from a strike zone is rarely that important, elevation is the usual biggest concern, elevation above potential tidal surge levels.
