So... these master weather manipulators cannot even turn this pathetic tropical storm into an actual hurricane.
whatever

Build it up too soon and it will trip over itself during an eye wall regeneration event.

Katrina hit CAT5 hours before landfall. An eye wall regeneration event knocked Katrina down to a 3.

If Isaac grows too soon, it too will hit CAT4-5 and then drop to CAT2-3. BUT, the weather forcast shows it may intensify just ahead of landfall. Making a potential for a REAL CAT5 landfalling hurricane. Making Katrina look like a daydream.

Signinficant flooding is being reported in Broward, Co. FL, 12 inches of water in some homes just west of Pine Island Road.
 Quoting: DoorBert

Very near my neighborhood. Not surprising. The amount of rain has been impressive here.

What is the explanation for the pressure continuing to drop yet the strength forecast remains static?

It's all in the eye wall regeneration timing. I've been watching hurricanes for 16 years now, they all do it. The process happens faster during stronger developement.

Worst case scenario is Isaac spins up fast and hits land 1 hour before the eye wall starts to collapse into itself.

That will be a worst case scenario, the surge and wind damage would be epic.

Pressure difference is what drives the storm circulation. If the pressure is dropping rapidly it means the storm is about to spin up and organize rapidly.

Also, smaller eye wall radius means greater destruction over a smaller path, relative to max wind speed.

The thing holding Isaac back has been an Upper Level Low to is SW near the Yucatan.

The UL winds over Isaac are CCW from the ULL which means he cant ventilate and fire deep convection.

Models are forecasting the ULL to move west to the Mexican coast this time tomorrow.

Issac has been building a lot of unstable air in his core today.

With the ULL moving away on Tuesday, Issac may just uncork then.

DoorBert I dunno much about this subject or hurricanes in general !

So can you tell me how serious would a Cat 5 impact would be on land?

Could the damage be comparable to a M7.5+ earthquake !?

Good question.

Cat 5 would be destructive wind damage and flooding from the storm surge.

Could be comparable. Depends on how deep the quake is as well.

Re: ISAAC now Following Katrina's Path. Steering Currents being Modified to Stall over BP Oil Spill Area.
It depends where the storm hits to predict damage.

East of the storm up to the eye wall will see winds in one direction (less wind damage) but will get severe surge and rain. Though the direction of the storms path and speed will add to the top speed of the winds average.

West of the storm will have a negative effect of travel against the winds and will see little surge leading up to substantial surge near the western eye wall. Weakest wind damage on the west side.

Direct impact will see substantial surge though slightly less then the east of the storm. However, winds will change direction after eye wall passes over. Creating the greatest amount of wind damage.

Speed of the storms path will effect surge amounts as well as will over all size.

If you live on a higher elevation and the winds are coming from the lower side, rain can be squeezed out causing greater rain flooding. The opposite is true, a hill protecting you from rain will reduce over all rain fall slightly.

If you are downwind of a lumber yard, expect wood damage.

This is a reminder of the wind categories of hurricanes
[link to www.nhc.noaa.gov]

cat. 1 = 74 to 95mph
cat. 2 = 96 to 110mph
cat. 3 = 111 to 129mph
cat. 4 = 130 to 156 mph
cat. 5 - 157mph and up

This is a reminder of the Fujita Scale for tornados
[link to www.spc.noaa.gov]

F0 = <73mph
F1 = 73 to 112mph
F2 = 113 to 157mph
F3 = 158 to 206mph
F4 = 207 to 260mph

I have my hurricane shutters closed so I don't really hear much. Then animals bolted into my bedroom around that time so I guess they heard it.

Have you noticed how insanely intense the the thunder and lightning has been in our regular afternoon thunderstorms?

I've been wondering for awhile- why does the blue stuff on these maps ,of "base reflectivity" right?, often seem to be over major crossroads, where the cities are? Is it just because that's where the radar is?
