Re: Woman covers 59 Miles in 35 Minutes with a stuck accelerator

this tard (a CHP officer to boot) failed his whole family and got them all killed.

maybe "jesus took the wheel"?
maybe a test of satalite control over "drive by wire" and "onstar" equipped type vehicles?

assasinations by satalite that look like car wrecks.
 Quoting: SOFA-KING-COOL

They said it was the floor mat. A passenger couldnt lean over and yank it out? Why didnt he use Neutral? Why did he approach the intersection at full speed ! Id take my chance driving into a field. It appears his car is in a field there with a scorch mark next to it, sounds like he crashed in the intersection and then flipped into the field and caught on fire .Who did he hit? Are they still alive?

If I had to crash, Id take no one else with me. I wouldnt have approached that intersection. Id drive off the road if all else failed..

This was a qoute too. CRAZY !!
HTSA investigators also noted that instructions for operating the car's keyless ignition, which requires that the power button be pressed for three full seconds to turn off the engine while the car is moving, were "not indicated on the dashboard."

Her shifter was locked up. Can't turn the key with the shifter in gear.

Best option in the situation was to put on the emergency break, get off the highway and jump out when the vehicle has slowed down enough.

Its been discovered how many people mistake the brake for the accelerator, Im dead serious. Its been documented.

the answer is not PEOPLE its WOMEN

Good reflex. I've had the situation happen once also. It was a little basketball rolling around the floor that wedged between the pedal and the wall.

I lifted the pedal and popped with one foot and popped it out with the other. Took two seconds.

I just can't imagine going duhr for 35 minutes a 110 mph.

Usually adrenaline will kick in your thinking and reaction skills.
She used them to call 911 instead.

Re: Woman covers 59 Miles in 35 Minutes with a stuck accelerator
Accelerator stuck down.
Gearbox stuck in drive.
Off switch not working?

What are the odds of all three things happening at the same time?

Once you have worked that out, then multiply them odds by the chances of everything being found to be in working order once the car had stopped.

After dong the calculations, I came up with the answer;

Bullshit!

And the police praised this persons driving abilities? That's bullshit X2
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22390034

Ditto!!

And I have a car with the Push-button start. If you want to turn the car off, you hit the button and everything is turned OFF. It's not some obtuse, quirky mystery.

The ignition switch is a SWITCH. It turns things off and on.

Further, cars are engineered in such a way that even IF you have the accelerator FLOORED, the brakes - when fully applied - will overcome the engine and bring the vehicle to a complete stop.

I'm very disappointed in my fellow women.

How can they be so stupid?

It's just sad.

Re: Woman covers 59 Miles in 35 Minutes with a stuck accelerator
i had a 3.8L chevy Lumina, driving 40.
Needed to brake for a bus and bam, no brakes!! ABS flashing

Accellerator stuck is scary but let me tell you, no brakes is true terror.

I just bought it that day, always used stickshift and not used to the parkingbrake on the fucking left that you have to be an acrobat to kick down when you are 1.95m.

No time, all i could do is hold the steering wheel with both hands, joked to my buddy; this is it, no brakes, brace for impact. Moved to the right of the bus at the last moment, only to find a concrete block for a lightingpole.

totalled the car, half the bus ripped open but no injuries.

Later i heard; if the ABS fails you are a dead duck, all brakes are gone. even you use parking brake or shift to neutral this is not going to slow you down significantly. Just gently hit the least lethal object to stay alive.

I will never buy a chevy again.
 Quoting: NIMRUTH

I believe you but I don't understand this. My ABS fail simply rendered the car as if it didn't have ABS - it didn't affect my ability to actually brake.

I thought the ABS system just meant that the brakes are pumped automatically - my mechanic just told me not to rely on that and pump myself if needed.....what am I missing here? Are some cars' brake systems prone to complete failure when ABS goes out? I had no idea!

It has a button to turn it off. To start the car you need to put your foot on the brake and hit the button. To stop it you just hit the button. But I have never tried to do it while still moving. Should work the same as turning off the key.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 394

I've turned off the car while traveling just to see how it would respond. Steering gets stiff but manageable, brakes get soft but still work.
I was able to handle it well enough to pull over and stop just as if normal.

Another time I had the joy of dropping the front end of the drive shaft while going 70mph in the inside lane of a four.
Through a deafening roar of noise and unsure of what specifically just happened, my response was instant and took less than ten seconds beginning to end.
Foot off the accelerator.
Neutral.
Hit flashers.
Eased to the right through all other lanes and coasted to a safe position off to the side of the road
applied brakes.
Made a call for a flatbed tow truck.
Called for a ride.
Never even slowed traffic.
Home an hour later with a smile.
 Quoting: Truthache

Nice. I lost a timing gear on the interstate. As the engine spun down, I realized that I was going to be stopping. I looked up- saw the exit for a port of entry- hit the exit- coasted off the freeway and into their parking lot- pulled into a parking slot and parked, all under no power. Walked inside to call for a tow. Lucky, but aware.

Re: Woman covers 59 Miles in 35 Minutes with a stuck accelerator
Ok I understand a stuck accelerator last year in my toyota my floor mat was caught on my accelerator I was on a back country road, I could feel the mat was stuck and there was nothing I could do. So as the car was increasing in speed I hit the breaks and the emergency brake at the same time. My car stopped no harm done and later that week I got a recall letter from Toyota, although I am not sure what the issue was with her car it seems she was too busy on the phone to use critical thinking skills.

I live close to the German border. 177 km/h or 110 mph, really is nothing special. In germany you are allowed to drive as fast as your car can take you.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7546264

I travel back and forward to Germany all the time, and this is only true in certain areas. Most of Germany is sadly adopting more and more speed limits with so many speed traps everywhere. It's a rather sad event with more and more dumb drivers and dumb politicians that see an easy revenue stream.

This is NOT what happened.

She was speeding & came up with this ridiculous story to get out of a speeding ticket. She has had numerous speedint tickets.

She is a habitual liar.

She told her employer she was going blind. So her employer started raising money for her & then when the truth came out that she wasn't, she was fired.

She went into the hospital for a boob job, she told everyone she was in the hospital for breast cancer surgery.

This "liar" was on the today show this morning.

Re: Woman covers 59 Miles in 35 Minutes with a stuck accelerator
I find it amusing that people are blaming it on her being a female driver. I have come to realize that it is easier for men to blame things on somebody being a woman or to degrade women in some way rather than to own up to their own insecurites. If someone is a bad driver or it is "bullshit" as some of you have so eloquently stated, then it is because of who they are. It isn't do to their race, gender or preference.

The idea of women being "bad drivers" is in my mind a 1950's mentality that should be lumped in with weak, shouldn't work, etc...

Men-I'm not blaming you entirely, I understand why you are insecure. A higher percentage of women vs. men are college educated, we thrive in every field we work in and do it all while taking care of your children and fixing your dinner. I would feel a bit threatened too. Not to mention guys, we outnumber you.

I drive a stick shift, can change my oil and amazingly enough, wipe my ass all by myself. "It must be amazing to you that I can accomplish any of this with my weak frame and limited mental capacity."

As for the topic at hand...this woman...probably an idiot, but I have met several men who aren't too bright either.

I am going to leave you with some humor found in a quote from the amazing Betty White:

“Why do people say "grow some balls"? Balls are weak and sensitive. If you wanna be tough, grow a vagina. Those things can take a pounding”
