Helpful, Tasty Tips For Hurricane & Emergency Food Prep - By The Mayo Clinic.
First, while it may seem obvious, it is important to eat the food from your fridge first, the freezer next, and after that move on to foods you may have stocked in your pantry. Do not discard frozen and refrigerated foods right when the power goes out. I was surprised to learn that foods from a well-stocked freezer will last up to 48 hours!

If I was the neighbor on the other side of his "studio" wall, I would definitley consider moving....HIM...out of the neighborhood.

Here is a short list of MUST haves' in your pantry.

Cans:

Refried Beans
Chili Beans
Pinto Beans, baked beans, corned beef hash, chili, spam, chicken chunks, cheese wiz, velveeta block cheese, corn, black beans, ham, pickels, olives, potatoes, nuts, beef jerky, summer sausage (other dried meats), fruit, peantut butter, jelly, pudding packs, strawberries, mushrooms, water chestnuts, cheese dip, beef bullion.

They even sell liquid milk that is vacuum packed, powdered milk, coffee, juice mix, chocolate, snack foods with good seals, cereals, granola, pretzels, corn chips, etc...

Coffee filters to filter water, and non scented bleach. 16 drops in 1 gal of water overnight makes it safe...or you can distill it with a coat hanger, pot, lid, and sterno can.

Most of the containers andstorage items can be bought at Good Will or yard sales for pennies.

The goods mentioned above can last 20-30 years + if kept dry and vermin free.

I have done experiments on canned cheese, butter, strawberries, soups, rice, noodles, spagetti sauce, dry sume sausage, jerky, peanut butter, honey, sugar, flour, spam, spices, and nuts. I'm still eating food right now that was purchased 1-2 years before the Fukushima disaster. It's fine...cannot tell the difference...except the packages all weigh in at 1 lb, 2 lb, 5 lb, 10 lb....not 10.7 ounces, 15 ounces, 9.2 ounces. We are being scammed on food prices and they are only getting worse. ANY investment you can make RIGHT NOW will pay off with 500% - 2,000% gains over any bank CD or any bullshit paper investment.

Start now and experiment with your family. Turn off the fuse box for 24 or 48 hours and write down what you need. Most people have basements...get the unnecessary bullshit out of your basement and build/buy shelves. It is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO for your family/future regardless of weather you believe in doom. Inflation and food inflation kills millions every year.

We're well prepared.

Own water well with aux. hand pump.
As well, plenty of stored water for ease.... not cool to be out in a mess, messing with a well.

Plenty of canned goods... including some exotics like smoked eel.

A butane burner for inside use; a double burner coleman for outside.

We know the drill.

We have all the stuff.... batteries, lights, candles, blah blah blah...

Entertainment things that run on batteries.

We're likely, "sheltering in place," for this one.... and we are dead center for the eye off the coast.... the seagulls hang out in the parking lots here....

We both can cook up a storm.... pun intended.

We have a generator but it will not see use for this one.
They are over-rated and not all they are cracked up to be in my opinion.

I'm one for the long haul... and a generator is strictly short term, running as long as you have fuel and no more.
Though this should be a relatively short term event, I bypassed what goes with using the generator this time out.

Main thing is to have a good relation with people in the local power supply company so you can get back up with electricity lickety split after the storm moves on.

We're as ready as ready can be.

Hope the storm goes well for everyone.

Don't need no more crazies like during Katrina, hope the National guard moves in 5000x quicker than before to arrest and or shoot looters. People don't usually get super hungry for about 24-48 hours after the disaster hits but the scummy looters start the instant the storm lets up.

I live in central lower Texas.
Our crime waves have quadrupled since our major city took in 22,000+ Katrina victims, and a huge portion of them are criminals.
I can only hope that if LA goes under water again, the survivors realize that Texas has already fallen to immense crime waves now and the pickings will be slim for the criminals, charlatans and scammers.
They should relocate to more Northern or Eastern US states.

Even the good well meaning relocated victims have to go to the back of the line in our welfare systems since the illegals have control over that. They won't get good assistance here in Tx anymore.

Out side if that, we need rain so badly that I hope the storm comes in ground and travels deep into Texas. I am 150 miles from the gulf.

Where I am, we don't need the National Guard for protection.

We are heavily armed.

Signs some neighbors displayed in Katrina:

You loot
We shoot

Looters will be shot (this one complete with skull and crossbones).

Local neighbor was getting some target practice a couple days ago. In his yard.

We don't/won't put up with crap.
The ptb would never attempt to confiscate guns where I am.
They know better.

and if you want a REAL generator get a honda 2000 or a honda 3000,

the 2000 is a grand and the 3000 is 2 grand but when you crank it up, you know where that extra dough went.

my buddy ran his house and his neighbors house 18 hours a day on 4 gallons with the 3000.

Since it is the Mayo Clinic, then I advise you stock up with about 500 pounds of mayonnaise. And don't forget the peanut butter.

In case you have a bunch of meat going bad in your freezer, you can turn it into jerky and it will last longer. That is if you have a slow dry heat source left, without power.
