I'd stay in america, if you think the world is any better, well it takes money or people in the know to get you residence in most good foreign countries. Some people have the personality to do it, I don't. Plenty to do in america. Relatively safe and free. Can't complain really... other than not getting enough time off to actually do anything meaningful. I'd take a month off unpaid if I could.

I see all the rats are abandoning the ship. So many people complain and would rather leave and put their head in the sand then stay and try to make a better future for all of us.

What is the cost of living there?

I am hearing alot of good things from Americans who have relocated to Quito, the capital of Ecuador.

Alot of the people in Quito speak some English.

There is a lower cost of living for the middle class there (lower by about 50%) in comparison to the States so the quality of housing, food, and personal security one can afford are good.

There is a "live and let live attitude" like we value here in the States.

However, most of the people I have talked to are not working at jobs there, but are living off interest from their investments or retirement funds. However, I do get the impression that their unemployment rate is lower than in the States.

The other thing I am hearing alot is that Ecuadorans are generally happy people and satisfied with their way of life.

Last, if/when we see serious earth changes, Quito has an elevation of 9,350 feet above sea level. In fact, it is the highest capital city in the world. This could come in handy if the oceans continue to rise and significant coastal flooding is an issue.

Ah yes the good ol time of the cowboys... I sometimes wonder about life in the old days... I mean we wouldn't have luxuries like we do today, but those people managed well... and I have a feeling that they have more of a legacy than we do...
